Is this the end of the Litverse, versus a transition to Picard/LDS continuity?

As some of the authors have previously explained, the purpose of tie-in novels is to connect with the on screen universe. As such they are by definition tied to the new shows.

It's "unusual" to get a shot at wrapping up the continuity like this so we're actually very fortunate .

I'm not sure where Enterprise stands really. Apart from it's inclusion in the Destiny event, I'd think it's pretty much free and clear as it wasn't taking events into new territory. It was already 'historic'.

However, I think it was a blanket decision, so it's probably over too.

I wonder who is gonna write this. My best guess would be multiple authors, with Dayton Ward being one of them. I'd also love to see McCormack write one last Cardassia story in the old continuity, but that's probably not this trilogy.

Dayton and David have said (or I've inferred, I don't keep notes on exactly what everyone says to cross-reference all the clues for my favorite on-line ARG, "Figure Out The Unannounced Star Trek Novels Early") that they're, like, core to the entire project, and Christopher has said he didn't know any more than the rest of us and had been too busy to ask. I feel like Una is a pretty good guess for who'd write the third book, if we assume one author (or author-team) per book and Dayton and David are both writing books and not involved editorially or something. I can only think of a couple other people beyond that, maybe JJM or James Swallow. Greg Cox has never written anything in the novelverse (not counting pre-novelverse stuff that got grandfathered in), so that'd be a surprise. DRG3 is also a possibility, and one I'd be excited by just for the prospect that the mystery of that damn hollow moon won't be floating around in the back of my mind for the rest of my life.

Though I suppose there's always the chance of a surprise, a new-to-Trek author who'd secretly been a fan of the novelverse all along, or an old favorite returning in triumph for the grand finale.

You're probably right, and I am happy to see a continuation, even if it is a finale. I was just wondering if they would somehow carry the story forward in such a way that it could somehow continue, yet co-exist with the Picard continuity. Personally I have a hard time imagining how that might occur since Picard is way out of continuity with the relaunches. I mean, I can't think of one single thing from Destiny-on that could be preserved in Picard. Almost like the show-runners went out of their way to make sure nothing of the relaunches could continue---I know in reality that's not the case, many of the show writers probably don't even know the relaunches exist. But sometimes I just think in a random universe that some things would align just by accident or coincidence. But literally nothing in the relaunches can co-exist.

But be that as it may, while I personally can't figure out a way to bring them together outside of saying it's a parallel universe (which would seem to be obvious), our writers, thankfully, have a much more creative mind that I do and will probably figure out a way that makes you go, "oh, ok, I get it now".

I think David Mack and Dayton Ward are probably gimmes for this project. They both have referred to 'the plan' in the past so it probably makes sense that each is writing a story. As for the other, well, as you noted there are a couple of options that probably make sense, or perhaps David or Dayton will write a 2nd story. It'd be nice to have some closure to the various DS9 storylines, and that could open the door for DRGIII, but IIRC he hasn't written any new Star Trek books since before the 2018 book exile so I'm starting to think he's out of the Trek Writer's Club. But, of course, nothing stops any of the other writers from closing out some of the hanging threads there. After all, even some of the storylines DRGIII left were continued from previous stories written by other authors anyway.

In any event, DS9 is the only series that hasn't seem to have gotten any closure from the 24th century so it'd be nice if some love was thrown their way

I'd have liked KRAD to have had another shot in that continuity. Articles if the Federation is still one of my favourites.

    In or out of Treklit.

It has to end at some point. Everything ends, nothing is permanent. This trilogy is as logical a time as any.

I just hope the final book is a DTI novel of them running around trying to fix everything and figure out a seamless way to tie it all together.

In comic book "reboot the universe" crossover events, there's usually a character or two who remembers the universe that was -- Psycho-Pirate in Crisis, Superman and the Wally West Flash in Rebirth, Blade in the upcoming Heroes Reborn. Even Spock in the Kelvinverse movies. So if the Litverse is rebooting to align with Picard, maybe there will be a character who remembers it all.

If we want to get into a deep dive, they already did that with the Star trek online book "The needs of the many". In one of the chapters they have one of the DTI agents who is aware of multiple timelines, directly mentioning the Kelvin and the Litverse along with the timeline set in STO. Of course He's in a mental institute and Q is his nurse so take that as you will.

It's obviously Brian Brophy. Prime Brophy then went into hiding and was replaced with a slightly imperfect clone, the Maddox who we see in Picard.

If there's two of him, does that make him Maddox, the Multiple Man? :D

Just recently i started getting back into the litverse. I started with a re-read of the Destiny trilogy. Last time i read it was when it first released. Then I just finished TNG: Losing the Peace. Now its on to A Singular Destiny. I've never read anything post-Destiny. And its exciting that it looks like we'll be getting a wrap up to the litverse.

Agreed, though I feel like Legacy: War works really well as an ending for the Legends continuity and the Jedi-Sith-Imperial story (with the Alina Solo series as a less-good postscript), even if it wasn't intended that way.
It's gonna be poor Lucsly, isn't it? The one who'd hate it most.
