This thread should be renamed, "The Hot Stove League"

    Respectively submitted, @Timby

ESPN and the local ABC station in Philadelphia are reporting that the Phillies have a new 2-year, $28 million deal with Didi Gregorius. Didi's performance last season was one of the bright spots in an otherwise underwhelming 2020 for the Phils.

Reds didn't have a shot after the salary dumping that went on this off-season.

Dustin Pedroia announced retirement today. Sad that Machado tore up his knee and ended his career a few years early; guy was fun to watch and always played all-out (which contributed to the injuries, I'm sure). Was expected, as he had stopped trying to come back, and just had to wait out the guaranteed contract until now I guess, and the Sox need the roster spot. Too bad, had he stayed healthy, he'd have had a HOF discussion at least; the guy could play, and was a monster when he was healthy.

In a prime example of "metrics" run amok, Brian Kenney has Reggie fucking Jackson as the number 1 rightfielder of the divisional era (1969-present) of MLB. Except for 500+ homers and three homers in a World Series game, Reggie might be the worst rightfielder ever. A .260 hitter; a horrible fielder; a lousy base runner. 'Nuff said.

Hank Smith and Ichiro Valdez? Two of the all-time greats right there.

Not to mention the all-time record of 2597 strikeouts, about double the number of times he walked.

Do you have a source on this? Last I can recall Kenny talking about Reggie Jackson, he was slamming him as a mid-range Hall of Famer, and that was maybe ... eh, five or six years ago?

I saw it with my own eyes on the MLB Network show "Top Rightfielders Right Now." He and Bob Costas showed their lists for top rightfielder since 1969 - Costas had Hank Aaron number 1.

Holy cow. Trevor Bauer, three years, $102 million to the Dodgers, with an opt-out after each season.

Remember when Kirby Puckett and Rickey Henderson became baseball's first $3 million players? Now you can't even get a fifth-starter with a high ERA who can't get past five innings and has a career losing record for that much.
