Discovery Season Four: Predictions, Speculation & Off The Wall Theories

That said, I think the visual composition, direction, and cinematography in the Mandalorian blows Discovery out of the park. When you say "everything is about the visuals" people will think you're discussing SFX. But that's not what I mean. I just mean the entire appeal of the show comes down to the way it is filmed. It would be very cheesy and generic if shot like a Trek series.
It is a very pretty show.

Which means precise jack to me because I don't watch a show for the visuals. They are the frosting. I don't want a show entirely of frosting.

It definitely shouldn't be, but that won't stop them. They're going to chase whatever's popular at the moment.
I'll be surprised since they tried cute and cuddly and just let it go.

That said, I am so amused that Star Wars got mocked for cutesy aliens in Ewoks but now its totally the goal. Stay consistent, fandom!

Didn't everyone on discovery black out on the journey following the Red Angel suit? During their sped up 1000 year journey?

It's possible that the events of Calypso somehow happened during that period. Not guaranteed, but possible.

I’m gonna need a diagram for that.

You put way more thought into that then the writers.

Some theories (note that these aren't all what I want to happen):

- The show will continue its pivot into being more character focused with a focus on emotional beats (I know, a bold prediction).

- Sammets will resent Burnham at first which will culminate in him resigning from Starfleet in a very dramatic scene. This will be OK with Adira and Reno having engineering covered and Book driving the spore drive. He will eventually reconcile with Burnham and there will be lots of tears and hugging.

- Tilly will continue to be first officer and perhaps show some struggle with her growing into the role with a dilemma on how to supervise people who are a higher rank and more experienced than you. Eventually it is reconciled with a lot of tears and hugging.

- Burnham will realize that being captain is a different role and she can't be the one saving the day all the time, she needs to delegate to / empower others instead (HAHAHAHAHAHA, yeah right)

- Adira will figure out how to make Gray real, lots of tears and hugging will ensue. Gray will then turn out to be a total asshole and ditch Adira. Adira will spend some time moping around but with help from Sammets and Culber eventually move on realizing them don't need them, can do by self.

- The first part of the season will focus on re-building the Federation, who will be in an interesting position because they now have a massive haul of dilitium, setting up some interesting commentary on distribution of wealth and the haves / have nots. There's also problems because worlds are flocking to join the Federation, but some don't care about it's ideals and are only interested in the dilitium. Results in Vance and others at Starfleet command reflecting on what the Federation really is / should be.

- The Federation starts getting a bit heavy handed and has to check themselves from using their new influence from shoving their ideals down everyone's throat. Results in commentary on what the right balance is between non-interference and stepping in when bad things are happening.

- The collapse of the Emerald Chain as resulted in the rise of a new regional power that is using propaganda to convince other regional powers to unite and attack the Federation for all their dilitium. This is Burnham's first true test in the captain's chair commanding a fleet and she is successful.

- Saru comes back to help Burnham convince Nivar to re-join the Federation. Saru starts a relationship with their president. Flashbacks reveal that there was a lot more behind their decision to leave and the Federation did something really bad in their desperation to address the dilitium shortage which all needs to be sorted out and reconciled. This is Burnham's first true test in the captain's chair using diplomacy Picard style and she is successful, resulting in a very emotional scene where she looks at pictures of Sarek and Spock while sobbing and screaming "I DID IT FOR YOU!!!"

- They try to get Earth to rejoin the Federation but it has changed too much and become too isolationist to the point where it just isn't a good fit. This is Burnham's first failure in the entire show which causes her to reflect that she's not perfect and can't do it all (HAHAHAHA, yeah right). Burnham will spend some time crying about it but will learn and grow from the experience.

I expect the show will continue to lack focus as it jumps all over the place, hollow and unearned emotional moments, no payoffs, and still unable to define what the show exactly is.

Sorry, but, I'm still angry over season three's abhorrent writing.

Couple of other things:

- Season 31 has gone completely underground and also gone completely out of control and is now actively working against the Federation. They were the ones responsible for doing the bad things that led to NiVar leaving, they were the ones providing Osyrra with all that inside information, and they are now actively assisting another new regional power attack the Federation for their dilitium. Burnham is brought in to personally investigate and root them out of Starfleet HQ (because she comes from the past, she is only one who can be trusted). Results in Section 31 being forever eradicated. Burnham crys at the end.

- It's revealed that SuKal can cause the burn from anywhere and basically needs to keep his emotions in check for the rest of his life. Some people think he is too dangerous and try to kill him. Burnham, unable to comprehend an existence without crying, does not stop until SuKal is cured. Burnham and SuKal cry together.

Forgot to add, the Section 31 / mole ends up being Kovich, who isn't entirely evil but did what he did for misguided reasons. When Burnham figures out he's the mole, she tries to use the power of tears to make him see the error of his ways, but it doesn't work which makes Burnham cry even more. They try to apprehend him, but he escapes, his whereabouts unknown, setting him up a a future antagonist.

I didn't realize the opinion I arrived at after the season came to an end was considered hate-watching.

It's not and tbh I think your reaction is perfectly natural when a season starts out strong with a lot of potential and then crashes and burns at the end.

This is great and shows more thought then Klutzman and Co.

No hugging in these scenarios???

No hugging in these scenarios???

Thank you for pointing out the obvious flaws in these scenarios. Maybe replace them with this:

Grudge the cat gets lost in Discovery's turboshafts. Realizing the search could take decades, Burnham makes a very emotional appeal to Book (complete with tears and hugging) to cut his losses and get a new cat. But Book never gives up, and there's a 1 minute scene in every episode for the next eight seasons of Book wandering through the turboshafts looking for the cat. Eventually, he finds the cat and there is a very touching reunion scene.
