Yeah, they simply were never going to overlap it with Discovery. It wouldn't make any sense, especially considering Prodigy will likely be the only other show to have new episodes in 2021.

IIRC, everyone besides Netflix usually prefers at least a month to promote their shows before they premiere.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing these episodes for the, ahem, first time.

I don't think it could be any more annoying.

Might wait for this one for a while being as it didn't land on Netflix. Money coming in isn't the same it was when all the negotiations started.

I'll probably end up burning through the lot in 1-2 days.

Question is why would Amazon care about overlapping with Netflix. Maybe CBS wanted it this way but you'd think Lower Decks would benefit from the extra exposure Discovery was getting.

Wouldn't be surprised if they just put it out it on the day and left it at that. It's not like they spent a ton getting the rights (probably).

Lower Decks will probably be a sleeper anyway, if you know where to look for it it'll be there but this isn't a mainstream series like Picard was, no way it'll be getting that kind of promotion, even the mainstream reviews have been relatively lukewarm to it compared with Discovery and Picard.

Picard does not meet the definition of "mainstream." No streaming show does.

Relatively speaking perhaps, clearly at least that's how CBS sees it/wants it to be. Amazon did quite a bit to promote Picard including a red carpet premiere in London I believe.

Meanwhile with less than two weeks to go before Amazon drops Lower Decks I've yet to see any publicity from them.

As long as all 10 episodes are on there 21/1 I won't be too bothered regardless. I hope it's been worth the wait.

Have any animated streaming shows had much pre-release hype? Bojack Horseman towards the end, maybe?

Yeah, there were posters and TV ads for it in Australia. Never saw anything for Discovery, and haven't seen any publicity for Lower Decks.

There are only 10 episodes 25 minutes long, so that's just over four hours. I'll finish work and be home on Friday by 4.30pm at the latest, so by 9pm I'll have finished the first season. Can't wait!

After all this time they're seriously just releasing one episode a week??? What a piss take.

So they are, could've sworn when I looked earlier it only showed the first episode - that's OK then.

I know, due to the pandemic this didn't really roll out the way they had planned, but still, I almost can't imagine how they could have botched the international release any more. First this huge delay between the US premiere and an international release. And now they're doing little, if any, in the way of advertising this. What is this, 1999? I hope I'm wrong, but frankly, I'd be surprised if this gains a significant viewership. If this tanks in the international market, they've only got themselves to thank for it. I kind of wonder what happened behind the scenes to so completely fail in delivering the show to international viewers.
