Starship design history in light of Discovery

Guys, The Art of Star Trek Discovery has a partial map of the ship and inludes the FUNHOUSE! Which is offically called the "systems hub". No way is that as big as it appears on screen, but they tried.

I love that Deck 17 has a room "Lorca's Menagerie"

I now understand the logic of having "fore" and "aft" doors in Discovery's turbolift cars. Particularly re: the horizontal turbolift artery in the outer ring. Otherwise, you can't get back and forth between compartments on either side of the artery, coreward or rimward.

The other way would be to have round cabs that rotate at will. But I never bought into this as the means of moving between the Bridge and the Upper Airlock in TMP: it's more probable that the latter is at a different level and requires a vertical turbolift run in addition to the rotation, thus allowing Chekov to speed past Spock via that other turbolift shaft...

We could easily argue that the Discovery (and also the Enterprise under Pike, as per "Q&A") had an older style of turbolift than Kirk's Enterprise, with fixed rails, and indeed could not rotate the cabs. And when getting the free-flying cabs, she'd still retain some of the internal structure and thus might need to dock at doorways the old way, sometimes calling for two sets of doors.

I fan wanked a solution to the turbolift chasm...... I love that scene BTW and probably the only person that liked that whole scene.

They have all been shrunk. Everything inside the void is shrunk including people and elevators but at the point of destination or entry everything is normal size.
