Good morning, and welcome to the first TV & Media Avatar Contest of 2021! Hope you all had a safe & happy start for the new year.

So, sure, yeah, it might be dumb, and too easy, but for this week, we're going to go with favorite movies of 2020. Thanks to the pandemic, it was a weird year for movies, a lot of stuff got delayed, a lot went to streaming services, and still stuff came out in theaters.

Simple rules for the contest - movie had to come out in 2020, either in theaters or a streaming service. Honor system involved, choose movies you have watched. Any genre, comedy, drama, scifi & fantasy, animated, horror, whatever. 200x200 in size, and there's an animation limit I can never remember. Entries will be accepted from now, Sunday, to Thursday.

Just looking for clarification here... the thread title says "favorite", but the body of the post says "best". Is there any requirement that we've actually seen the movies in question? That is, is it supposed to be our *personal* favourites, or just ones that could theoretically be objectively judged as good, regardless of whether you've seen it or not?

Sorry for the confusion. Let's go with favorite that was watched, honor system.

I'll edit the original post.

Can't imagine only watching one movie all year.

Well, to be fair, it's not that I only watched one (two, really) movie in 2020, it's that I only watched two movies that were released in 2020 in 2020. I did see a number of movies in 2020, but they were mostly from 2019 or earlier.

I'm both an introvert and socially anxious, so I don't like going to theatres (even before we found ourselves living in the plot of Contagion). My internet service is terrible enough that watching something on streaming is a painful experience that's generally not really worth it. And money is generally tight, so if I'm going to buy a movie on disc, I tend to wait until it's old enough that it gets marked down significantly. So when I do see something "new", it's usually around 2 or 3 years since it first came out.

I made an exception with Onward, since I'm such a fan of the Pixar movies. Once it got marked down to C$20 during the summer, I splurged! :D

And here it is Friday, and this completely slipped my mind.

So, I'm working twelve hour shifts this weekend. That gives anyone else who wants to play along two more days. I'll try to remember to post the poll on Monday.

The goal is to get the voting thread posted tomorrow! So, here's a quick recap!
