What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

I get what they were going for with the Discoprise, but even then the neck seems too slanted compared to the refit, and the pylons don't seem slanted enough.

I like your suggestion about materials from the old ship being recycled for the new one, but it still takes some mental kung-fu to say the new ship is the same ship its made from.

Interestingly, I don't know if there are any shots of the Refit Enterprise's dedication plaque. I don't know if it even had one.

No such thing appears in any of the movies until TNG came around and they reintroduced them.
There is one in Lora Johnson's Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise but I've no idea if it was 100% her invention or based on some unused art.

And there was definitely one in STVI for the Ent-A.

I always thought it was weird that Gamma and Delta quadrant species referred to themselves as being from the Gamma and Delta quadrant. Wouldn’t they consider themselves the Alpha quadrant?
Maybe it's a translation thing, or considering why would they have independently come up with dividing the galaxy into 4 quadrants, maybe they took it from us. I just googled "kilometre in different languages" and a lot of them just seem like different variations on the original version. Maybe it's the same in space. We stole the Class-M thing from the Vulcans. The Female Changeling probably just stole it and had Weyoun send everyone a memo that they're using it now.

It could be as simple as the universal translator has us hear 'Gamma' or 'Delta' but their native tongue is something else. Basically, giving us our equivalent of what they are saying.
Absolutely. 'Giving us our equivalent of what they are saying' is a perfect description for how the Universal Translator has always operated - just like it's doing with 'years', 'months', 'hours' and everything else that can't possibly match between alien races.

This is not a Controversial Trek Opinion but this is Controversial given it's the Holidays. To this day, I've never seen Die Hard. I don't dislike him, but I've never been a huge Bruce Willis fan.

So -- driving this back to Trek -- whenever someone says "This is Die Hard in Space!", like with TNG's "Starship Mine", I get what they're saying, but I never know what to look out for when someone says it.

I don't think you are missing out on much. It is a fairly typical 80s action movie, with tropes galore and a lot of one liners.

First controverial opinion for Star Trek 2021 from me: If Star Trek has done something goofy/silly/stupid/illogical in the past it is fair game for the writers to use again in the present. It does't make it good or bad but it is simply part of the fabric of Trek.

I only know about "Die Hard" from the Bob's Burgers Episode where the kids mix it with "Working Girl" and turn it into a musical called "Work Hard or Die Trying, Girl!" From what I gather there's something about German terrorists who take over a business tower and Bruce Willis' character fights them while not wearing shoes?
The only movie with Bruce Willis I like is "the Fifth Element" and that one is more a case "I like it despite it being a Bruce Willis movie"

How's this for controversial:

I freaking LOVE the Turbolift Funhouse from DSC.

I couldn't give two shits how plausible it is, I just find it very refreshing that they do things like this just because it looks cool!

That's basically it, yeah (although not all the terrorists are German).

And the reason Bruce isn't wearing shoes is because of an earlier scene where somebody tells him how you can beat jet lag by walking around barefoot on your hotel room's carpet and making fists with your toes. He tries this and finds out that it actually works! (It does, BTW. ;) ) The terrorists know that he's barefoot and they intentionally shoot the windows so he'll injure his feet on the glass shards.

Honestly, that film isn't really a Bruce Willis film like other films of his became. It is definitely a Luc Besson film, but I can imagine a lot of other people in Willis' role, which is more than I can say for most of his other films.

To build on top of that-I don't care about the visuals inside of a ship. I love starships a lot, but the way Trek puts in VFX some times doesn't makes sense, among other design choices. So, if it is wacky and cool that's fine by me. It doesn't nothing to impact my enjoyment of the story.

IMHO it's more likely they would use a completely different system.

Still, it does make some sort of sense that they found out about the Federation's naming system for quadrants and adopted it themselves, to fit into the "standard".

When did this happen, BTW?

At the great standards convention on Tellar. They were known for their organizational skills.

^ No, I meant when did a species from Gamma or Delta quadrants actually refer to themselves that way.
At the great Dominion naming standard after their scouts found another quadrant. The Founders are know for their organizational skills.

In case it isn't clear I am being extremely sarcastic.
