I'm really looking forward to Osyraa eating a phaser, but before that happens, Janet Kidder should just PICK ONE ACCENT already.

Let's not do this. There have been plenty of times in the past 21 years I've been here where I came around to agreeing with posters I disagreed with initially. I'm not in the mood for this today. I'm actually in a good mood. So I'm going to let you have this.
Brill.

We've built colossal dams, skyscrapers reaching high into the sky, vast underground facilities - of course if push came to shove with all the mining technology, lifting and transportation machinery at our disposal, we could carve out large rocks, transport them to site and lift them into place. To argue otherwise is senseless.

Sure we can, build a rocket and Gooooo. It's expensive, not a lot of financial gain (where is portable H3 refining technology when you really need it) so we don't do it anymore. But once China lands a man on the moon in next year or so, I'm sure patriotic pride will kick in (like it did in 60's)
There is no straight line between make a missile and land on the moon. It is an organizational challenge that involves professionals in multiple disciplines. Don't oversimplify.

I liked it, actually did a decent job of making osyra a villian. Better than a number of movie villains ..

Was nice to see her line was actually giving up power and face justice.
And the part with Staments chewing out mikey was brilliant.
Sad to see Mary's husband get vaporized..
Looking forward to next week!
Loved when Ossyra makes the point of how typical Starfleet it was that the truth holo had a human face
I was worried to that they were gonna go full on with the Ossyra is just looking out for her people and got called out by a number of people as a maniac.
Interesting too how unwilling they are to forgive her despite all weeping for space Hitler a few episodes ago

We still can't build Pyramids. And that's even longer ago, from where we are. So it's not unheard of.

Technology is lost over time and doesn't always progress linearly. And in this case, the knowledge for how to create the Spore Drive disappeared with Stamets. And that book was proverbially burned when Starfleet Command suppressed all information about it.
That's not true in the slightest, we both know how the Pyramids were built, and could build our own if we wanted, we just don't because nobody wants to build giant stone pyramids using manual labor and pulley's.

As the moon topic that sprung up, that's also false, we could, but again we just don't want to.

Seriously, we don't go to the Moon, because there is no $$ in it. It will be huge embarrassment to NASA when a Private company will beat any US sponsored trip back to the moon. (All Hail Musk, All Hail Musk!). But it will happen. US just needs a Chinese kick in the pants. It's all about motivation.

H
We didn't lose anything. Yeah, building Saturn V right now probably doesn't make sense. Nor using slide rule to calculate trajectories. Nor giving NASA and Boeing endless supply of money. Musk can do it on 1/10 the cost and 1/5 the time.
He has? Fascinating.

Well, we didn't see her walk barefoot on broken glass though...:D

Plus she didn't say yippee ki yay mother fucker when the other was ejected into space...
She did one better... Kicking that bad girl in the face "a-la-Kirk" to get her to let go.
(even losing a boot)
:techman:

BTW: We most certainly can go back to the moon today.
We haven't lost any of the "Knowledge" involved in doing it the first time.
We've simply lost the impetus because there's no immediate financial gain in doing so at this time.

And also, there are actual plans afoot to do so, but again, it's not a sound financial prospect yet based on all the other problems our Government is dealing with.

And what did the loss of investment lead to? Loss of knowledge, loss of experience, loss of ability.
Off topic but I am morbidly curious-what's been lost? NASA has focused assets elsewhere, such as solar observation to determine those weather patterns, and the private sector has been very busy planning new launch vehicles to support advancement to space. Elon Musk, in particular, is working hard for asset development.

At this point there is little to be gained from going back to it isn't a priority. Also, the human race is way more risk adverse and sending people to the moon could probably kill them so why take the risk?

Because no one actually cares about the villains, any where. Emotional moments are quickly ignored in favor of dislike.

Not really an accurate statement considering that initially, Control didn't get its hands on the Sphere Data.... it evolved entirely on its own.
Remember that the Sphere was put in Disco's path because of Burnham's mother... and back then, the Sphere was literally in its dying moments before it downloaded itself into Discovery.

I just don't see how Control would be able to get its hands on the AI data in general if the Sphere was destroyed in early Season 2 somewhere in deep space.

Control only learned of the Sphere Data after it was on board Discovery (probably via official channels) and then targeted Disco to get the AI data so it can evolve faster (aka, Control was actively downloading specific information, but otherwise it didn't have real help from the Sphere Data itself - which is odd considering that the Sphere Data could have put up firewalls around itself much like it did when Disco crew tried deleting it to prevent bits and pieces of itself from being copied by malicious AI - which may work temporarily, but it would still provide time for the crew in general).

Michael's mom said that she did everything she could to prevent Control from getting his hands on the sphere data and she failed each time, so your interpretation is definitely not the right one unless you're saying that she's lying... which would be weird, to say the least.

If we ever develop a stable fusion reactor system all that helium 3 embedded in the regolith may be worth something Earthside.

You know, it is kinda weird that the Sphere Data wouldn't allow itself to be destroyed at all during Season 2 - and in Season 3 it just meekly transfers itself into three DOTs rather than actively resist deletion in the main computer.

I gave this one a 7. This last set of episodes just isn't working for me. Not awful by any means but not really grabbing me either.

Osyra's plan was a stupid one. I actually think her wanting to join in a treaty with the Federation is a smart move. However, really?! To start negotiations, you hijack a Federation vessel and hold the bridge crew as hostages?! She then talks about good faith negotiations! :guffaw:

She takes Discovery to where it is surround by other Federation ships, isolated from her own ship, and counts on the Federation not to blow Discovery out of the sky because the bridge crew is aboard?! If it comes to the bridge crew or letting the Orion's get the spore drive, bye bye Discovery bridge crew! And, just when we thought the Discovery's/Tilly's actions during the hijacking were the most lame, it turns out the hijackers are also lame! They let a handful of bridge crew retake the ship.

And did Osyra really think the Federation would give a pass on all of her past crimes?

Ultimately, these past two episodes (and more) has been a bunch of wheel spinning filler. A lame hijacking followed by the most senseless post-hijacking plan ever. All that time to eventually get the ship back where we'll no doubt return to the action in the nebula.

For the finale, I'm guessing there will be a technobabble reason for the Burn. And that technobabble reason was controlled by the Kelpien child, probably unwittingly.

Perhaps it took the 32nd Century upgrades to the Repair-bots for them to be able to hold all of the Sphere's data???

It's all so that CBS can ripoff Disney ;)
