They're definitely gearing up for some character deaths next week. I'm betting at least Booker and 1 or 2 of the bridge crew doesn't make it.

Part of me is still hoping for a Voyager-J appearance with a Robert Picardo cameo as the ECH, still active after all these centuries.

Who wants to bet some Vulcans and Romulans show up next week courtesy of Michael’s little Chekhov’s Gun phone call fo mom? If that is indeed what she was doing — I need to rewatch.

I'll admit osyraa's little proposition reminds me of Data's line from "First Contact": "For a time, I was tempted by her offer."

Oh, that was fun. And filled with far more diplomacy than I expected. That episode did quite a bit for the overall world-building as well as for the character of Osyraa. She became substantially more interesting here. I was afraid Vance would cave and Osyraa would be revealed to have fooled him with some tricksy plan, that the diplomacy would be a distraction, but no--she seemed to be offering exactly what it said on the tin; the issue was that Vance was too principled to sign the accord.

Someone get Vance a mug that reads, "Federation's #1 Admiral."

I enjoyed Burnham a la Starship Mine.

The conflict between Burnham's desire to get Stamets away from the Chain and Stamets' desire to stay on board was delicious in its limited time. There was some real anger and hurt there.

The twist with Zora was telegraphed early, but not how it would unfold. So there was a reason for certain images in the title sequence after all...

It was great to see Mitchell as the scientist, both because the character was reasonably interesting and because he validated Osyraa's claims about the Chain as a bastion of scientific ingenuity.

    Where was Nilsson?

Overall, I'd call that a return to form for the show.

Just saw it, and I thought it was an amazing episode! Part of me was dying to see Saru, Hugh and Adira again on the dilithium planet, but on the other hand, excitement for the next episode is hyped more than ever!
Loved the end with the bots, and I thought it was a great way to bring back the spore data..! Great character work for Vance and Osyraa..! All in all, Season 3 is sticking the landing and turning up one of the greatest seasons Trek has ever had..!

Vance and Osyraa negotiating was good, but the rest was just boring. Nice to see Kenneth Mitchell again, this time without makeup!

Yes, it showed Gray as a Vulcan, and...
Disco swallowed by the Veridian, which then explodes, and Burnham telling the saloon guy she doesn't believe in no win situations

Yeah, I just feel bad for the man. Having to deal with ALS. I hope this will not be the last we see of him.

All I can say is "Now, that's more like it!!!!" This was an awesome episode. Last week, I didn't know what to make of the episode. Things looked like they were going in the wrong direction fast. I'm glad I chose to withhold judgment until, at least, this episode. Next episode could still jump the shark, but I have far more hope that it won't. This episode has sold me on the direction they're going. The scenes between Osyraa and the Admiral were incredible. Osyraa and the Emerald Chain were fleshed out and given more dimension than I thought possible and what's more it was all done in the span of only one episode which is very impressive. It looks like the Short Trek episode is being set up to either happen or be averted. I'm leaning towards it being averted, but I will find out next week which direction things go. If the poll had a 9.5, I would have given it that, but since it didn't and the episode deserved generosity, I gave it a 10.

On a side note, and assuming that there isn't a second planet with the same name, we get a hint of how far the Emerald Chain has spread. In the episode, Booker mentions Benthos IV. Looking this up at Memory Beta, Benthos IV is the homeworld of the Benthans, a Delta Quadrant species, who appeared in the Voyager episode "Vis a Vis".

Michael’s line “You’re going to need more Regulators” reminded me of the line from Die Hard where the police chief says “We’re going to need some more FBI guys”.

Poor Ryn. He finally stood up for himself and then got vaporized.

I thought the sphere data would play a role but I didn’t think it would be inside the Dot bots.
    I gave it an 8

Vance has now outranked William Ross, who despite being a mostly good Admiral did allow Section 31 agent Sloan to execute his secret missions inside DS9, which resulted in the invention of biological virus which almost wiped out the Founders and killed Odo, among other things. Ross also approved the assassination of Senator Vreenak to entice the Romulans to join the Dominion War.

Vance does not condone assassinations to achieve one's end and his decision to turn down Ossyrra's offer and does so from an ethical ground puts him on top of my "Good Federation Admirals" list.

I was not expecting much...........just setting the stage for next week. The negotiation was good.......hate the bow tie/milk man look of the hologram. I liked the ending with the DOTS.
