Otherwise, if Discovery somehow did make it, the crew would be taken away from the decommissioned Discovery and studied like specimens by historians, psychologists, and scientists. "Look at these people from this other time!" Not the type of series I'd be interested in watching...
Thing is, I'm not convinced that it makes sense even as the show has set it up. When early on it appeared to be doing Andromeda, with the Federation having fallen, it made sense that Discovery's crew would stay together on their ship because they didn't have many other options. But once they introduced this massive multi vessel Starfleet headquarters, with a functioning chain of command and strategic ops they should have been quickly absorbed and reassigned, mostly to duplicating the spore drive. At that point, keeping a 900 year out of date ship and crew together operationally was a quite odd decision and only makes sense out of universe, to keep the story going.

Discovery has much lesser crew after it left the 23rd Century. A crew of 88 (?), so it would've made sense if they added in some 32nd Century crew to get Discovery back up to full crew capacity. Or at least as close to it as the number of potential new crew available would allow.

I think they kept the crew together as a morale thing. These people don't know anyone outside of their shipmates. All their other family and friends are dead. So Vance agreed with the case Saru and Burnham made. I think it works to help ease the crew's transition into the 32nd Century. It can't be done all at once, it has to be done in phases.

Discovery must've had a hell of a series of Professional Development Seminars. We got a brief glimpse of that while they were learnings about their new communicators. But I would've liked to have seen them processing all the information they were taught in whatever Crash Course they must've had about whatever they need to know. Which I'm assuming was cut down to the bone: "Here's how you operate the new interfaces, here's Who's Who and What's What, and these are the Current Events of the Galaxy that have happened in the last 10 years. The main highlights of the most recent stuff."

Exactly: there was some sense in keeping the crew together, at least how it was shown on screen, but it should have been complimented with experienced 32th century personnel before letting the ship go on missions. That the only contemporary crewmember is adira is absurd.

If any of the 32nd century crew would work with them. There is clearly a large amount of skepticism at this new ship and crew.

I actually assumed that someone like lieutenant Audrey Willa would join Discovery, to advice them & keep an eye on them for Admiral Vance. It would indeed make sense storywise. Was surprised it did not happen.

Orders can be given.

Same here.

Sure. But, if the new crew resent the old crew then it creates a very hostile environment that isn't conducive to accomplishing their mission. I think that one officer as a liaison would be appropriate.
That would be something, at least (and, in fact, the role i originally thought Adira would play).

I see it as a second chance to do the mixed Starfleet crew. This time done right. They might still do that.
True!

Wow I had completely blocked that out of my head
Same here. Michael’s who? When? How? Why?

Which tells you there's a basic problem with the premise, not that you should try to make it work anyways.
Let's not kid ourselves here, you'd rather not have the show regardless.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having an interstellar version of the Dark Ages. The concept of "The Fall of the Federation" is one that's been around for decades. This just happens to the first time it's being done as the setting for a Star Trek series.

Except it wasn't because ban's are toothless without an enforcement structure in place to punish people who actually do the illegal thing.

What's your evidence that it's not enforced? We haven't seen any indication one way or another whatsoever.

Incorrect, Discovery could work, if it was better written.

That's patently false.

We have seen people traveling both forward and backward in this season of Discovery to no enforcement. Which means enforcement doesn't exist outside of maybe minor lip service.

Please list all the instances. Excluding the acts of Burnham and Discovery actually arriving in the future which has already been addressed and was considered a special case due to extenuating circumstances.

I'll wait here while you make them up.

I'm surprised Sahil from the first episode wasn't kept onboard in that capacity - providing guidance to the crew and exposition to the audience.
To be honest character wise, what guidance could he give? He stated his parents were starfleet officers, And they alone maintain the station and gave him whatever training he had. He really has no idea of the universe beyond the area that the dilapidated starbases can still effectively reach; And Burnham was the first actual Starfleet officer after his parents that he encountered.

I get why a lot of people like the character, And I agree that it would have been nice to see how and if he were integrated back into the Federation and Starfleet in some way; but that said, remember that Starfleet Command is effectively hiding because they are concerned if their location is found; outside factions would combine to destroy them. That's why their location was not widely known, And they're hiding behind a cloaking shield.

Yes they still try to protect and hold together the small number of Federation planets that remain, but overall they don't have a lot of resources and they're very judicious in how they use them.

The whole "restoration of the Federation" is Burnham's and the crew of the USS Discovery's idea. The rest of the admirals at Starfleet Command are just trying to hold on to what they have and not lose more.

Someone seems to have forgotten the Emperor.

Also you don't get to discount two examples of it.
