It seems odd even bizzare even after deciding not to deport her back to the 20th century one would think shed be sent to a university not a science vessel
She on board as a whale expert. I'm sure they have remote learning in the 23rd Century. It seems odd even bizzare even after deciding not to deport her back to the 20th century one would think shed be sent to a university not a science vessel
Because there's ways to get your science on in the 23rd century other than only serving on a ship? Why wouldn't a trained scientist learn and serve on a science ship?
just cause there are multiple ways doesn't stop you from pursuing one of themBecause there's ways to get your science on in the 23rd century other than only serving on a ship?![]()
She was actually drugged by order of starfleet command, then sent back to 1986 but there was a mistake and she was ended up six years earlier. so had to relocate to Chicago, changed her name to Karen , got married and had a child etc. Later when Kirk inquired her whereabouts and found out shed been sent back he went 'finding a needle in a haystack would be childs play!'
Agreed but it seems like many people here just assume things like, "why wouldn't they join Starfleet?" "Why wouldn't they serve on a ship?" As if that's all there is to life in Star Trek.just cause there are multiple ways doesn't stop you from pursuing one of them
The scene is open to interpretation.I suppose they had her do something like graduate studies and on-the-job learning while on the vessel, though she didn't specifically state that. Now what I'm wondering is, when she told Kirk she'll find him, was she planning to ghost him?
Maybe her "science ship" was an actual ship and not a starship. She could monitor the whales and their integration back into the wild, the health and wellbeing of the calf, whilst bobbing on the waves, that way she'd also be nearer to various Federation, Starfleet and civilian institutions to help her get up to speed on the future and integrate into her new life.
They were intelligent enough to make contact with the Probe, so maybe Taylor teamed up with a group of sociologists, linguists, and exobiologists to better unlock the mysteries of the humpbacks and understand them in an entirely different way than had previously been established/theorised.This is the most sensible thing. The only two (three) whales in the known galaxy, and they decide to send the only person with experience off to another planet?
Uhura went from brainwiped gimp, to line officer over night.
