So anyway, some time we have to talk about the 1876 US Presidential Election.

No, thanks. *shudder* I've already thought about that enough over the past couple of months.

I found them (all, of them, not only the 10/10 ones) very odd: the vast majority of people on that page is either complaining that the episode and/or discovery as a whole is bad or complaining about the aforementioned people complaining.

That's exactly why I don't bother with looking at them. I also avoid looking at comments elsewhere, say, like on YouTube videos concerning DSC. The vitriol is at a level pretty much matching that currently over real-life issues, and I just don't have the mental and emotional bandwidth available anymore.

I did a quick check on last week’s episode’s IMDB page and things seem more normal there, with more sensible reviews.

There's a cap on how bad things can get here. Being an unhinged asshole doesn't work very well. Social media, and other unmoderated spaces, are essentially battlefields now (which is why I avoid them).

What I'm really horrified about is someone reading IMDB and YouTube posts/reviews in 2040 and thinking "Is that what they really thought in 2020?!"

Note to whoever's reading this in 2040: If this board still exists or you're looking through some archive, no we didn't all think like this! But yes, you're right, 2020 was a backwards time!

... wait a minute, I'll still be around in 2040 to tell people myself. I'm looking forward to the "So what was it like?" questions I'll get from The Next Generation one day.

There are very few 10s in Trek.

I gave “Into the Forrest I Go” and “If Memory Serves” 10/10.
But they are legitimately amongst my favorite episodes in the franchise.

I would add DS9's "Waltz" to that list. That episode is a perfect 10 IMO. I think I would add "In the Pale Moonlight" as a 10 episode too.

This why things like finding recent Trek so disappointing is rather perplexing to me. There is such a huge library of Trek out there that the more disappointing offerings are rather easy to dismiss.

So, looking at it, I have to agree with some other people here. I think the third season of DSC is good, but it's not hitting the highs it used to.

I think they took a lot of what was unique (and, as a byproduct, also polarizing) and watered it down. For myself, having put tremendous value on the unique approach DSC took to the franchise in last seasons, it’s a tougher pill to swallow this season, as it is starting to feel more “familiar” than I’d like. I certainly don’t dislike it...but I don’t get as excited about it as the last two years. I think my main draw is I like what they are doing with the characters this season, and it is a GORGEOUS looking show.

I’ve rated these last three episodes in a row as 7’s, which by my admittedly “high grader” standards is the biggest stretch of “meh” in the Kurtzman / CBSAA era.

Thus explaining why a lot of people who didn't like the first two seasons think the show improved during the third season. They're looking at it from the exact opposite direction.

I would add both “The Trouble with Tribbles” and “Trials and Tribbleations”. “Balance of Terror” also.

The only 10 I have given anything in the Kurtzman era was the S1 finale of Lower Decks. In fact I think that’s the only episode I have given over a 8.

It’s not hitting the highs... yet! I think they’re going safe and steady these first 8 episodes, but I think it’s going to kick off in the final four or five. I predict they’ll be divisive as hell, but I expect to really enjoy them.
