There's rubber faces on Discovery, there's rubber faces on Picard, there is almost certainly going to be rubber faces on Strange New Worlds. It wouldn't be Star Trek otherwise.

So Uhura and M'Benga are already on the ship when Kirk takes command. M'Benga probably leaves to study on Vulcan in the last episode.

Nope. They waste a lot of time mugging and being racial stereotypes of one kind or another. Boring.

Not really in my opinion.. they further good story lines. and the best characters and stories have been other than Human.

makes me wonder about Piper, Sulu and Scotty then. Cause Im sure Mitchell came aboard when Kirk came aboard.

Just keep it to a minimum or use it effectively.

Hard to say, apparently he and Spock served together for years, but at the same time Kirk asked for him for his first command. So that could mean Kirk, Mitchell and Spock have all been on the Enterprise for several years at the time of WNMHGB or Mitchell and Spock have been on the Enterprise for several years and Kirk's request for Mitchell was denied.

Jake Cannavale might make a good Gary Mitchell instead.

It probably helps if your mother is the co-executive producer.

Only if they have no spines, which does not appear to be the case.

They left Kirk out of DSC, they can damn well leave him out of this one too.

Yeah, yeah, Pike DID turn up in DSC season 2. But there were no canon issues preventing him from doing so. There ARE such issues which logically preclude a Kirk appearance on SNW (at least, any scene where he meets Pike).

That said, I admit I am curious as to one thing: how do Kirk and Spock meet for the first time? We know how it went down in the Kelvinverse, but not in prime. If SNW manages to pull that off, and Pike is somehow kept out of it, then I'd be all for that.

They'll find a way. I'll bet that was one of the first things they addressed when teh series was "go." How to get Jim Kirk in there somehow.

I am surprised DSC didn't, but they were all in on the Spock tie-in. One can only do so much.

Yeah, no. About one to a series is sufficient.

Of course that's not the way it will work. Trek has to service the prosthetics fetish that's become such a part of the franchise. Minimum of two regulars besides Spock will have something glued to their faces and a monocultural backstory tacked on to explain their character quirks.

If this list is true these characters seem generic, but of course my opinion could, and I imagine will change, once I learn more about them and see them in live-action. I was hoping to see "The Cage" crew and really hoping there would be some bones tossed to The Early Voyages comic, which I really enjoyed. Nano would be a great character to explore, as would Moves-With-Burning-Grace. It would be neat to see other "Cage" characters get fleshed out more, like they've done with Pike and will do with Number One.

If they are going to go all new or mostly new, I would be fine with seeing more alien diversity, as well as human diversity. I would like to see an Andorian (of the ENT variety) on the ship for one, and if they sprinkled in some obscure or undeveloped ENT or other TOS aliens that would be nice as well. A holdover crewmember from the Discovery would be nice too, perhaps that "Decker" they once mentioned.

Also hoping that the Tholians are the big bad. I imagine though we will get more of the Klingons. Shame it's too early to use the Gorn.

Instead of a young James Kirk if there's a hankering to use TOS characters I would rather see Decker (the commodore and Will, finally establishing their familial bond), Cartwright, Morrow, Nogura, Lori Ciana, Clark Terrell, Sonak, Xon, some of the various other TOS commodores, and other side characters along that line that didn't get much focus before. They don't have to use Kirk, but why not his brother and sister-in-law?

Kirk can appear in SNW without meeting Pike.

    Or, he can meet him.

There are several things said in "The Menagerie" that make no sense and have to be ignored, so they may as well ignore another for the sake of convenience.
