Spoilers Robert Meyer Burnett: "Terra Firma" will ruin Trek canon

And depending on which nitpick the critics brought up it could quickly become not only tiresome but obnoxious.
As I have said repeatedly, nitpicking used to be fun. Chekov never met Khan; he wasn't on the Enterprise. Did the universe fall apart? No. Did I need an explanation? No. I just laughed about it and moved on.

Increasingly, continuity, or canon, as some misattribute it, is weaponized to make grander claims of conspiracies and injuries to fandom.

Assumptions about fictional history and head canon. Some fans are more obsessed about what they think about Star Trek than what actually happens on screen.
I guess...

Default snarky reply-I wasn't aware Kurtzman was destroying people's thoughts.

Indeed. this is something that I am continually amazed by. The first question I see is "Is it canon?" as though some how that status makes the story more...what? Important? Entertaining? Enjoyable? Memorable? I don't know any more.

Via the link shared by @Tuskin38: "The new look of the Klingons is an affront to Star Trek fans; especially since we are supposed to sit back and accept it, without any explanation of why it would be so, nor any real justification for it."

Wow, I can't believe Gene Roddenberry and his new movie ruined the Star Trek canon that was created by...Gene Roddenberry.

DSC this year has directly referenced the Mirror Universe episodes of ENT as well as United Earth, self-sealing stem bolts and the Coridanites of ENT right down to the exact same makeup, unchanged from the previous prequel series.

What more do some people want??!!?!?

Don't answer that.

I still want to know what's being destroyed.
The way they complain you’d think they were shoveling TOS DVDs into the furnace every time Discovery makes a spore jump.

edit: not sure how Autocorrect managed to get “Greg” from “the” but you learn something new every day

Not just DVDs but all TOS related merchandise ever while utilizing Tantalus' neural neuralizer to erase all memories of past Trek.

Only Kurtman. Only Kurtzman.

I blame internet film criticism to some extent. That's how plot holes went from weird things to point out, like why didn't E.T. use his magic finger to heal himself, or being flaws that ruined the movie. It's just pedantic shit that no one notices or cares about because it doesn't really impact the story being told.

He's a powerful man, possibly a Q.

They showed a TNG movie era phaser, my favorite of the 24th century phasers.

These days, plot hole just means “thing that happens without being explicitly spelled out for the audience in exact detail”.

The Orions are almost completely unchanged from ENT and even the Andorians no longer have the auto-tuned voices. Some even have human-like irises and don't wear white contacts. If these Andorians are an affront to Trek then I hope someone holds TNG accountable because the two Andorians we saw in that series were the most "un-Andorian" of any in the franchise.

Some of the time it's just parts that individual audience members didn't pay attention to and called that a mistake.

This thread needs to be retitled "The Canon Bitchfest Thread".
We're going have to end up merging most of the threads into it then. The local mods might get carpal tunnel clicking all those links.

I think the Klingons got and deserved the noise mostly because the new look was terrible even if they had been the first time we even heard of Klingons and even though the Klingons started out with no ridges the look that got started in the TOS movies and lasted into the Berman era ended up becoming the defining look for them. I think Worf being a regular is a big reason.

At this point changing the Klingon look would be akin to giving Vulcans square ears. Might look cool but it wouldn't feel right especially if your basically saying that NImoy's Spock use to have square ears due to TOS adventures having once happened in this universe. Unless you at least give a explanation for the different look. Klingons at least has some possible excuses built in for the different looks but like I said it's still a hard sale because the old look was just so popular and iconic.

I think this is also a big reason for all canon issues. Does it FEEL connected in some way. TOS is very different from TNG but both were created by Berman. We had classic TOS actors playing their characters in several episodes. Then TNG really feels connected with the rest of the Berman shows because they were using same writers, props, uniforms, canon references and character crossovers.

Picard has lots of that stuff so it feels connected even if the way the characters speak is to contemporary compared to the rest of the Berman shows. Discovery has none of that. Would have if Fuller hadn't been fired since he use to write for Voyager but other than that you don't have the same type of connections. Even the old characters are now played by different actors so I see why people have canon issues with the show when it also doesn't feel like the old shows in anyway.

We thought the canon was special, special
But it was just the sex though, sex though
And I can still hear the insults (the insults)
I got a feeling that it's time to let it go
Let it go

Series change and our love went cold
Free the beam 'cause we can't let go
Run away, but we're running in circles
Run away, run away
I dare you to do (a reset)
I'm hating on you (again)
So I don't take the blame
Run away, but we're running in circles
Run away, run away, run away
