I started Season 2 of my rewatch on Sunday and I had forgotten that Season 2 got off to kind of a rough start. The first great episode of this season was Home, as I found the first two episodes kind of boring. I am still sad that Halston Sage left, even though I'm still holding out hope that Alara does return one day. They did leave that open for it to happen.

Unfortunately, Halston Sage is currently in New York, committed full time to some gory murder show! Now, at one time, she was able to fly between there and LA for some other, unspecified project but – I'll let her explain, hers is the seventh story down.

Amazingly, since that article was written, she has been able to return to work, albeit in just one place. Since she stopped being Alara, she seems to have gained the xelayan's bravery!

It is possible she has already done her Orville cameo, but it's also possible she can't, unless the Orville's long five-month shooting schedule allows her time to finish her work in New York and undergo weeks of testing and quarantine again.

That said, as I've already said, I don't know if a cameo by her would be advisable, and she certainly shouldn't return to her old role. It would be very difficult follow up Home with anything other than an anticlimax! That said, it could be great if we can get to see the whole Kitan family again some day.

It certainly beats her current on screen family! Personally, I found that, though I loved Home, I can't endure a full series of tense crime stories. I mean, watching a show just because my crush is in it can be a terrible mistake, like this one:

I watched the one episode that had Sean Pertwee in it. Can't say it made me eager to watch more. Not my kind of show at all.

I would love to see the Kitan family again though! I have watched Voyager this year for the first time and I'm sad that with Alara gone it also means we aren't seeing her Dad anymore.

Last night I saw the Identity two part episode. I bought a new Sony 4K TV this year and that space battle looked absolutely gorgeous. Maybe there was a lot going on, but I could tell they spent a lot of thier budget on that episode alone. I've also reached the point of the series where I really started the appreciate the world building. Introducing the Kaylons as this Borg-like threat only maybe a little worse was a terrific idea and leads to many interesting story possibilities, especially if the Union and Krill do have an alliance.

The shooting and production of ''Orville"' Season 3 is restarting after being delayed for nine months due to the pandemic. Some inside scoop from the production from Penny Johnson Jerald's vlog on this video.

It seems S3 production would be wrapped up by late Spring/early Summer 2021 and S3 could be aired sometime towards the end of 2021 .

Hopefully we would be able to see S3 by the end of this year. It's been so long since I watch a new ''Orville'' episode. Hopefully the long wait will be all worth it ;)

I was really hoping it would be sooner than that, but I'll take what I can get.

IIRC, it's been reported that in other places which have gone on lockdown in the past month or two that TV shows and movies that are filming are exempt from the lockdowns, provided they take necessary precautions, among them in-studio/on-location testing of all cast and crew multiple times a week.

Sounds like a nightmare, unless none of them are anything like as tactile as I am in the throat. Do you get used to it, if it happens on a regular basis? I have only been tested with the swab once, for a national survey. It was easily the most difficult medical test I have ever had, at least in adulthood. Indeed, I might have given up, had this girl not said:

Eh, I was tested back in the spring. I found the process relatively painless.

Having to add all of this testing has been a major complication for all of the stuff that's filming now. Having to pay for testing has blown up their budgets, and all of the limits have made filming a lot more complicated, and forced a lot of the shooting to go on a lot longer than originally planned.

though I suspect they'd make a lot of use of rapid testing kits.

The NCIS shows usually do 24 episodes a season but they’re only doing 16 this season because of the costs and the extra time it takes to film.

I understand the filming complexities, but I hadn't realised what testing did to the cost. Maybe Seth Macfarlane will be forced to scale back his overly grand, Discovery like ambitions, and the show would be better for it!

By nightmare, I meant for the cast. I mean, opening wide enough to get the swab past your teeth to your tonsils?! I suppose some humanoid species might like it. You know, the kind that likes being stabbed in the hand and watching bleak material. I'm not a member of that species!

I've been on set of movies been shoot here in Italy a few times between July and October (now everything is stopped again as there is a new lockdown), initially they used serologic tests, but as soon as rapid tests became available they were quick to switch to those.

A major point here has been availability and costs of tests, it has impacted production in the way that extras that are usually called for a single scene are often used for multiple ones, taking a test the day before the first and being asked to avoid contacts as much as possible until shooting is over. The cast and crew is still tested each day, though.

Also worth adding: in the beginning the covid measures such as masking were mostly overlooked and downright ignored, recently it has been quite the opposite.

Productions now usually have a “covid manager” figure and everybody, from actors to cameramen to directors are required to wear masks unless currently in front of the camera, if you fail to do so you’ll get a stern reprimand from such manager or others. Us extras have been held completely segregated from the stars and most of the crew, eating and waiting in different rooms, seeing them only during scenes. All in all it makes sense, I guess.

That's one thing medical dramas have going for them at the moment, even the ones in front of the camera can be wearing masks.

I thought they did the tests through your nose?
