This is what will later become my entry for the ongoing art challenge.

Front view: Basically the ship is made up of three parts. The Sphere on the bottom is the "main ship". It contains the bridge, and basically everything a spaceship needs excepts the FTL-drive. It can detach from the rest of the ship and land.
The secondary hull has a front part with a pair of pylons with thrusters, and the dish wich generates the warp field at the very front. Two rails connect it with the back part wich also has a pair of thruster pylons, a shuttle bay, storage space and it connects the sphere with the rest of the ship.

The third part is the reactor. Itself produces no thrust, it only generates the energy. The giant nozzle like structure exists to shielt the rest of the ship from heat and is basically a cooling system. On the top of the nozzle we also find a communications array.

So this is the basis. Most things are placeholders right now. Next would be the windows and finishing the thrusters. And come up with a plausible defense system...

    Another Brilliant concept!
I love the thought process and theory behind each of these!
    Excellent work my friend :D

I just hope people get that this is not just about the ships. Any aspect of Trek can be explored :D

Thanks man. This "make star trek without star trek"- kind of concept almost feels like vacation for my brain after focusing on federation vessels so much.

I agree. I found it interesting when doing my design to seriously consider how I would approach such a feat. I also have to admit that everyone who has so far worked on this topic has really shown some very distinct and unique approaches to the challenge. I personally can see everyone's concept as the "real thing", were it to actually happen.

    Again, awesome work bro :)

Yeah I like the "diversity" (well...not really but within the ship designs) of what we've seen so far. I wonder what else people come up with.

    Update:

As planned I made the windows and the thrusters today. Also the secondary hull got a little refinement.

Just an out-of-the-blue (black?) type thought... Do the rails have to be rails? Perhaps big honking cables instead, that could reel the forward propulsion section ‘in’ (towards the aft section) or ‘out’, depending on the strength of the warp field?

Basically adopting the ramscoop type setup from Larry Niven/Known Universe tales, in a way.

    Cheers,

Nice update, love the details, they give an idea of how big this thing is. :mallory:

    Ahoi,

I'm not sure about the cables, but to make the front section retractable seems to be a good idea.

Maybe a telescopic construction could work? :) Something like a car antenna.

*edited because of brain fart.* :wtf:

Yeah. It could be retracted for maintenance and in emergency situations.

^ That was another idea I had as well but... while it would work, I think the design would end up looking almost like a kit bash/rearrangement of that ‘other’ Discovery... from 2001.

Not like that’s a bad thing either, of course!!

    Cheers,

    Last update:

just refined some stuff. The connection is now retractable half way, and I addet the defense system. On each of the struts we have now these turret-pods. In emergency they will disconnect and float/surf on the shield bubble. This is because they can not fire through shields. Also they will be getting their energy from the shield grid.

Because they are not fixed they can arrange in any way that is the most effective as long they are in contact with the shields. For example: If the threat comes from behind all turrets will move to the back. If needed the pods can be repaired and serviced in the shuttle hangar.

Well that 2001 ship is an inluence. And also are the spherical ships from Perry Rhodan. So I kinda combined that and refitted it. So in my head canon this would be the Enterprise-A.

Side by side with federation vessel roughly the size of the Enterprise-C.

    Amazing design, really awesome. :mallory::techman:

Also, I am VERY familiar with Perry Rhodan. :mallory:
