Andorians - What Would You Like to See?

I love that we'll be getting more of that sweet antennae action in season 3! I thought Enterprise did great with Andorians (Shran is one of my favorite Trek recurring characters), and hope to see Discovery flesh out the Andorians even further.

What would you like to see from Disco, Discovery-wise?

Personally, I'd love it if they made canon that Andorians have four sexes (extrapolating from Data's line "Andorian marriages require groups of four, unless...."), and I'm guessing at minimum four genders. It's something Trek Lit did a great job expanding upon, and it makes the Andorians unique.

Discovery's LGBTQ inclusivity is commendable. It'd be interesting to see if the show could explore gender issues further through Andorians.

But even if none of that happens, I do hope we'll delve more into Andorian (and Orion) culture. As it stands, it looks like we'll be getting more into Trill culture, which is also exciting.

There seems to be one Andorian who keeps appearing in the trailer that aired after the first episode. They're seen running from a mob with Book and later in Book's ship with Detmer while holding Grudge.

I noticed - I hope they're a recurring character and not just in one or two episodes.

There was a bearded long haired Andorian in one of the trailers. Was he shown in the first episode?

Hmm, I don't remember seeing a bearded Andorian in that ep. I could have missed him.

I would love it, if they found a way to bring in all the facts we've learned about the Andorians in DS9's book relaunch without retconning the (at the first look) conflicting information about them in ENT (four sexes e. g., Andor and Andoria). As much as I loved Shran's arc in ENT, I always was a bit dissapointed, that they didn't go on the relaunch's ideas about our blue people there...

I never had a problem with reconciling these Andorians with the novels. Two of the Andorian sexes are said to be more outwardly masculine, and two are more outwardly feminine. When we meet Tholos, in "The Andorian Incident", he seems quite androgynous and is as flirtatious(?) with Trip as he is with T'Pol. When Tholos turns up again in "Shadows of P'Jem", I assumed that he and Shran might have been part of a group marriage situation. Then, with "Cease Fire", we meet the Amazonian Tarah, who also has past history with Shran, but is a quite different female to Talas in "Proving Ground".

IDW Comics, "Spotlight on Andorians: The Old Ways" and the mini-series "Leonard McCoy, Frontier Doctor", did a great job of representing TOS, ENT and TMP-style antennae placements, and suggesting marriage groups and various kinships.

Likewise, DSC has shown us several types of antennae/tendrill placements and eyebrow styles.

I would love to see even more intermixing of styles. It seems this new season will try for a variety of hairstyles. Even facial hair...

We haven't seen him yet!

Yes, that's from John Byrne.

John Byrne's Star Trek is so awesome.

And "Romulans" (and "Romulans"). And "Assignment Earth."

And I loved his Fantastic Four too; #251 was my first issue, it was heady stuff for 12 year-old me. And putting on my gatekeeper hat, John Byrne's Fantastic Four is the Fantastic Four. Well, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby did an okay job too, but John Byrne, though...

It's the only super-hero comic that I like. I didn't see the Fox movies because they didn't look good. I'm assuming Marvel will do a great job with the Fantastic Four, though. Black Panther is the only Marvel movie that I've seen (purely just to support it), and the Fantastic Four would be the next Marvel movie that I see.

As for Andorians... just do them. I don't care what you do, just do them. They're like the coolest looking Star Trek aliens, so anything they do is fine. I just want to see them.

It would be hard to imagine them being able to resist. It's like, how can they not? :)
