"After the U.S.S. Discovery crash-lands on a strange planet, the crew finds themselves racing against time to repair their ship. Meanwhile, Saru and Tilly embark on a perilous first-contact mission in hopes of finding Burnham." - TrekMovie.com

In the comments section for TrekMovie.com's article on the premiere, someone said… "Is it one of those stories where she doesn't meet up with Discovery until episode 3?"

And the response? "Why, yes it is."

It's a cliché or a trope or whatever but as you can see, they've chosen to go the all-too-familiar slow burn route with the main character not meeting up with the rest of the gang for a time. In the first episode we got Burnham's arrival in the 32nd century and in this one, we get Discovery's. Will Burnham actually meet up with the rest of the crew sooner rather than later? We'll see.

Too bad about the Iron Man suit. I liked it and it might have come in handy. But onward and forward as they say. It's season 3 and we're in for some new stuff. A lot of fans didn't think that they could top season 2 with Pike but in my opinion, so far, so good. I think they're well on their way to doing just that. Between a whole new setting, a galaxy that isn't what it used to be and some of the best production values we've seen to date, Trek feels new again and better than ever. The verdict is still out on that with a lot of the viewership though, so let's see what happens as everything falls into place.

I found it less interesting than the last one, the conversations in a certain location dragged on a little too much.
But the scenes on the ship are good, and it gets better towards the end.

...As always. But we get no explanation yet why they couldn't have the old stuff in addition, too. They know how to build an Angel Suit. They know how to charge a time crystal. They have the ability to go suck a supernova at their leisure. All they'd need would be a trip to Boreth for a new crystal or sixty, possibly an adventure worth seeing. Although cladding the whole clan in Angel Suits just without the crystal would already be a nice boost...

All low ganging fruit time travel is illegal and destroyed.

They told us that.

I wonder if the guardian can be demolished?

It's either in destructible, or the guardian may attack the blokes with sledge hammers and dynamite.

It's hard to pilot a wrecking ball when you died of croup 30 years ago.

Going by the preview images this is looking like one of those Star Trek episodes that me not like-y so much.

And I feel that way because when they go off the ship the production value usually drops because it's a set built just for that episode and so time and money come into the equation. If the story is strong enough of course they can get away with it, but there's a lot of things they have to get right for me for that to work and they usually don't.

The Original Series I always gave a pass to any time they went off-ship. I was a little kid, I didn't care, the colors were cool. Other series, no, do it well or don't do it. And most times they didn't do it well, I felt.

I'm feeling a little "'Will You Take My Hand?' Qo'noS outpost"-vide to this, one of my least favorite parts of Discovery.

Naturally I'll judge the episode after seeing it, but right now I'm giving it a pre-rating of 5. I'm keeping my expectations extremely low for this one.

A "hold my nose" episode until episodes three and four when we're going to get Adira and Gray's introduction. Those episodes I'm expecting will be good.

EDIT:
Will this be the first Discovery episode not from Burnham's POV? Pretty big deal.
Yeah, if there's little to no Book and Rocket Girl then this is going to be a hard one for me.

wasn't the episode with Lorca and Mudd in a Klingon prison not from Burnham's POV?
I knew there was something about that episode that I didn't like.

And they were off the ship in a cheesy looking set.

Wow.

This is the way...

(Please fast-forward to the non-binary and trans characters.)
