Well, good for him. His design still sucks. Granted he’s a good designer and he had to follow Pocket Books’ rules for the contest, but the best he could do was a Sovereign/Akira mishmash?

The rules weren't that strict. I mean there were a bunch of designs that didn't look like that. This is the design the judges liked the most, so I don't think it's fair to put all the blame on Sean.

I agree with what you’re saying, but my point was that his design wasn’t really all that original. I’m not a designer and even I could have come up with ‘make a smaller Sovereign class in an Akira configuration with Akira nacelles and a pod on top.’

Or what?

You seem to be afraid of people expressing different values than yours, to the point of imagining that there's some dire consequence to your disagreeing other than their forming an unflattering opinion of you. Why is that?
Come on, @Serveaux, you know better than that. Keep this kind of side-discussion out of this thread. Thank you.

And yet, it sounds strangely appealing when you describe it like that.

It sounds like a really bad kitbash is what it sounds like to me.

Fits perfectly with all the other ships in every other show.

So? Did that somehow prevent him from coming up with a more original design?

I don’t want to start a bashing thread for the guy. Congrats that his design made it onto the screen. Doesn’t change my mind that I don’t particular like it. End of rant.

Hm the phaser arrays are inset into the hull. I don't think they're like that on Sean's concept art or the model used on the book covers.

damn that was a fun episode. The Solvang warping apart was very well done and something that I don't think we've seen before, at least with Star Trek.

I fully expect that we will see Badgy again, probably leading the Pakleds. How that's going to work out for him since Rutherford can't remember him is going to be interesting. Maybe Shax somehow survived. OHH and he's got the implant now, giving Badgy a physical body......

The Aventine was a original design. Hopefully that’s the next ship seen.
I like the Aventine but what's original about it? It looks like a stretched out Sovereign class, probably why I like it. But, I would hesitate to call it original.
