Speculation: what will the Lower Decks season 1 finale contain?

I vaguely remember some statements from crew/creators of Lower Decks in some of their earlier interviews or panels that there would be something big for the finale. Figured there should be a place for some speculation, discussion, and any real info as well.

So what do you guys think they should have/do in the season 1 finale?

My main hope are that we see something of the following:
1) some big character stuff for Mariner and Boimler: Boimler stepping up a little more (like he got to in "Veritas" but more) and the viewers getting to learn more about Mariner's reasons for rebelling and not wanting to rank up
2) a dramatic element (storyline or plot point) to carry over into season 2: either a cliffhanger or a new big bad Star Trek villain (individual or race)
3) some solid follow-up on Rutherford and Tendi: not as a potential couple, but individually. Why did Rutherford make the "choice" for his implant?; why didn't Tendi see much of her homeworld's beauty before zooming off to Starfleet? Now that LDS has established their premise and has shown they can hit the mark with comedy and fun stories, I am ready for a little more about out main characters.

As a couple of bonus ideas/options:
- Anyone think there is a chance of a longer finale: like 45 minutes instead of 22? Have their been any hints in interviews or promotional material? I just really want more of this show (10 episodes of 22-ish minutes each is not enough!)

- Which season 1 supporting characters would you most like to see return as "reoccurring characters" in season 2 and beyond? I know a lot of people seem to like Badgey, but I would go with Barb (Boimler's girlfriend in "Cupid's Errant Arrow") or Captain Ramsey from "Much Ado About Boimler".

Discuss!!!

I have a feeling in the finale the other characters, or at the very least Boimler, will learn Mariner is Freeman's daughter. And there will likely be a cameo by someone from one of the other show's main casts.

None at all. There might be an extra five minutes, or the episode's length could even be thirty minutes, but it will NOT be 45 minutes. At that length it would count as two episodes, which would be surplus to the show's contract of ten episodes.

And the show airs on regular broadcast schedule on CTV thursdays 9 eastern.

That's actually irrelevant to the matter given how accommodating CTV Sci-Fi is to Disco and Picard episodes that take up longer than an hour timeslot. And Doctor Who, for that matter.

I think we'll get a a ship and character from a previous series, BUT not one of the main ships, or central character. To keep with the Lower Decks theme, it will be a minor ship and character (or a lower ranking main character)

As Wormwhole says, that doesn't matter. The episodes of DSC/PIC that ran longer than 42 minutes were still shown in full.

Keeping with the showrunner's love of TNG, and the general themes of the show, I would guess it will end on a cliffhanger, but rather than having to do with epic stakes endangering the entire quadrant (or even the ship) it will be some level of personal stakes which involve the main characters.

My guess is Mariner is going to be put into a terrible predicament which could result in her finally being drummed out of Starfleet.

As a TNG-era CBS All Access production that relies on the existing franchise to float, it will necessarily end with the appearance of a TNG character:

* USS Verity and Admiral Picard
* USS Titan and Captain Riker
* USS Enterprise-E and a familiar captain (Worf?)
* I would have said Q, but they botched that already

It will end with the "dun dun dun" best of both worlds type music.

I'm guessing the Enterprise-E is being saved for Picard. I've suggested elsewhere that this might be the big time travel episode, so maybe we'll see a different Enterprise. Or all of them.

Now that I think about it, based on the tone of the show, it'll be Wesley appearing and acting a-la Family Guy "H-Wil H-Wheaton"... or maybe the entire cast will appear like this:

USS Verity and Admiral Picard
i don’t think Picard is on the verity yet. According to the serie’s background material (which is not canon but makes a lot of sense) he will still be captain of the Enterprise until the mid 2380s.

Thinking of it -and I just checked- the Verity isn’t canon at all for the moment. All we know is that by 2385 Picard was an admiral and had left the enterprise and then resigned.
