Still no trailer for Season 3 on Netflix...

There's still no trailer nor any information about the release date for Season 3 on Netflix, which is supposed to be released around the 15th/16th October.

Why isn't there anything about this on Netflix, when sometimes stuff like this appears months before the release of the new seasons for other shows?

I'm a bit worried now. Does Netflix has the rights for the new season?

Yes netflix still has international rights. It was confirmed in the trek day discovery panel. The trailer will probably show up on netflix closer to the airdate

Netflix only seem to be marketing things that are happening in the next couple of weeks. Has been like this for a while especially for TV shows. Movies do get more lead time. I wouldn't worry as stated above it was confirmed on Star Trek day it will stream on Netflix on 16th October.

Check the 19:15 mark in the Discovery panel.

Weirdly, the music is different on the Netflix trailer. Not as epic, IMHO.

IIRC they cut Lenny Kravitz from the season 2 trailer too.

It's gonna be interesting to see how Netflix handles Discovery this season, it's only about a week til it goes on and the only indication I've seen on Netflix is "new episode October 16" on the Discovery page. I've got this sneaking feeling that they're none too pleased about CBS launching its own streaming service and giving Picard to Amazon, despite Netflix getting behind Discovery and having Trek on its platform for years, which is why Lower Decks hasn't been picked up either. It'd be pretty standard for how Trek has been (mis)managed for so long.

CBS already has a streaming service. Netflix probably knew from the beginning that they would lose discovery and the other trek properties at some point considering it was always the plan for all access to go international in some form eventually.

This isn't the first time Netflix has lost properties, for example the marvel series. Its just the nature of streaming and if Netflix wants to survive it needs to start creating its own viable content.

Personally i don't think Season 3 will be impacted in any way by the potential changes.

Erm... when Netflix BOUGHT the international rights to this show, it was already a CBSAA series. That isn’t something that came up after, and took Netflix by surprise. They’ve always known they were just an international distributor for the series.

People read too much into the Picard rights going to Amazon, and we’ll never have a simple explanation as fact, because that info just never comes out. But, the honest truth is likely as simple as Amazon offered more money. I doubt Netflix would hold a grudge over that, and I fully expect they were given a fair opportunity to meet or outbid the figure from Amazon.

Lower Decks wasn’t meant to debut, until this month. We know that the schedule change meant that the international deal was still being sorted, and couldn’t be sped up. Let’s see what gets announced over the next month.

Also, with CBSAA going international, it’s not actually in their interests to give away Lower Decks to any other streaming platform. Perhaps they’re offering less countries as part of the deal, knowing where they plan to launch AA next year? We have no idea.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see them put LD on linear TV, and keep the streaming rights for themselves.

They could have Lower Decks and newer shows on Paramount+ or the Viacom premium channels in countries where they're launching that, and have Netflix/Amazon/traditional TV fight it out for the rights in other countries without Paramount+ or Viacom premium channels.

Yup. It's just business.

I don't think Netflix put a ton of money into Discovery just to lose it at a later date and I can't see any CBS streaming service being an international success. Which is why no one has picked up Lower Decks and the only way to watch it is pirating it.

Except that is what happened with Netflix's Marvel series when disney + came around. Also Lower decks wasn't shopped to any international streaming services outside of North America, it wasn't because no one wanted it.

Paramount + is going to have the entire gamut of existing paramount/cbs produced tv series and movies in addition to any new properties. I'd say its probably going to do pretty well.
