Ladies and Gentleman, we are. all. Screwed. :(

The second woman ever appointed to the Supreme Court has died, after an extraordinary career--an icon of women's rights and powerful dissenting voice in the current Supreme Court.

The New York Times has a great article, HERE.

Her loss is tragic but I also dread what will happen now.

    FUUUUCCKKKK.

Any way to delay any confirmation votes a few months? You know the "It would be inappropriate to appoint a judge in an election year" will be fast tracking this shit with some fascist crony.

I'm remembering a lot of right-wingers speculating, hell accusing, Obama of having Scalia whacked. And we know that those folks are heavy into projection...............

    The 2020 suckage continues...

The only hope is that just enough moderate Republicans decide to hold out just long enough to screw over Drumpf.

I appreciate your optimism but....no. There are very, very few Republicans willing to take a stand against Cheeto Voldemort.

    We are truly fucked.

Can we at least focus on the person who has passed for a day or two, before dealing with what comes next?

We've lost a giant of civil rights. I didn't know her half as much as I wanted to and I'm sad we didn't learn more about her career and achievements during my university studies, but I still couldn't help but always feel the utmost admiration for her, even from an ocean and half a continent away. Though I'm not an American, I'm still dreading the prospect of seeing her legacy erased with the help of some partisan hack swiftly pushed through during a lame-duck session. 2020 truly doesn't let us catch a break.

I would highly recommend the documentary on Netflix, or Amazon Prime, "RBG." It came out in 2018; it's VERY well done and I think really paints a full portrait of her. The breadth and scope of her work, and how her life has benefited all the citizens of this country, is pretty breath-taking. This teeny-tiny little woman with a quiet voice was an incredible badass.

I was both shocked and saddened when this news alert came up on my phone last night. She was a remarkable woman, and she will be very much missed. My deepest condolences to her loved ones.

My condolences also to all the Americans who are going to be negatively impacted if the current administration gets to choose her replacement.

Democrats need four defectors and that isn't going to happen. I don't trust Murkowski or Collins as far as I could throw them--and given that I am 36, immunocompromised and walk with a cane, that isn't particularly far--and Romney's camp already very explicitly said that he wouldn't be a "no" vote. I can't think of another potentially squishy vote in the Senate Republican caucus.

Honestly neither a huge fan of hers nor particularly disliked her. She had her beliefs and worked for them, applied them. Not particularly liking her, it is still alarming that there could be such a big shift in the court (from her being too liberal to someone, and the court overall, too conservative for a long time).

I feel a new nominee can be nominated, can have hearings, should not be confirmed this close to an election, confirmation should be delayed, yes let the people have a chance treat the election as a referendum on the next nominee and court.
