Ultimately, there is a freedom to Mariner that is refreshing to see, especially within the context of Star Trek’s future.

Yes, he's saying how exhausting it is to see nothing but perfect minorities on television and that it's the only way they're allowed to be portrayed and be sympathetic.

Interesting. Interesting. Very insightful article. I never saw the show from this angle, but it does make sense.

Mariner IS a bit like Archer in that she does it her way and as a result, sometimes causes chaos, but still manages to somehow get the job done. I don’t think I can come up with a Black female main protagonist character who has had that persona in a “white” show, particularly a sci fi show.

Now, if the comedic writing was closer to Archer level, and if the voice acting on LD was anywhere near Archer or Rick and Morty, they’d truly have something profound.

As a character defined by his dedication to exhibiting professionalism in all aspects of his duties within Starfleet, almost to a fault, Mariner couldn’t care less about the respectability that being in Starfleet is meant to afford.

That's what we call a misplaced modifier...it's describing Boimler, but the subject of the sentence is Mariner.
