Just finished watching it. I thought this was the strongest of the bunch. It was certainly the one I enjoyed the most. I thought it was sweet, funny, and quite ‘Trek’. Tendi is bestdi.
I think this was the most enjoyable outing for me as well.........next week looks good also.

I thought it was sweet that Mariner was so worried for Boimler. Yeah, she was snarky and humorous about it but that's just how she can be. She joked about him having a girlfriend, was then pleasantly surprised that he did have one, but then became concerned when she seemed too perfect. So that, coupled with her PTSD...

Which is what age? Do we know how old Boimler is?

Nope. All we know is that he graduated the Academy in 2379 and has been on the Cerritos (with Mariner) for a year. We can assume he is 23 if he entered the Academy in 2375 at 18, but that's making lots of assumptions. He could be older, maybe someone who made a sudden job change after the Breen attack inspired sudden patriotism in people from Central California (where the Breen attacked San Francisco, 90 miles from Boimler's hometown of Modesto). Or he could've been recruited with thousands (millions?) of others if Starfleet lowered their standards in the latter days of the Dominion War.

Mariner has served on five ships, and the Quito was her assignment prior to the Cerritos. She was on the Quito in 2379, and was presumably demoted and sent to the Cerritos that year. The flashback on DS9 features her in the uniform from 2379 (Nemesis), so there are no issues setting it there. Except she's an ensign, so presumably before her first promotion (to LTJG?) and subsequent first demotion.

I've speculated before that the other four ships she "served" on could be including ships she was raised on. Maybe she was an Acting Ensign, maybe a Cadet on multiple training cruises. But most likely the ships her father commanded and mother served on during her youth. Having her on the Quito for a longer period (2373 to 2379) could be doable, with all her references to the Quito. But the fact that she hasn't referenced the Dominion War in her trail of references leads me to believe that she was commissioned after the War like Boimler.

But that's just me making more and more assumptions.

That was a sweet little episode. Once again while I enjoyed it, there really weren't any points I laughed out loud.

I feel like they toned down the "ridiculous" quotient a lot from the previous episode. I like that everyone onboard the Cerritos comes across as competent here - if not always emotionally mature.

The Tendi/Rutherford B plot was really endearing, but as with the second episode, I don't understand why a fancy tricorder is such a big deal. Can't the replicator poop that stuff out as soon as a design is put in?

Hey, I liked this one a lot!

There was nothing that I initially hated and had to warm up to on subsequent viewings.

It was definitely my favorite episode since "Envoys."

Yeah, that was like a 9 1/2 or a 10 for me. I rounded up and gave it a 10.

That was great. I still wish that it was set during The Original Series era, and Mariner's flashback could have just had her wearing a uniform that they wore in "The Cage" or something or whatever... And yeah, that's just my weird thing and isn't important.

Anyway, so so good, and so much to unpack. Others have mentioned the references, and yeah, I didn't get half of them because I've barely watched The Next Generation, but the episode was so much fun it didn't matter.

And next week...
And next week: NCC-502, apparently from TOS, where they had clamshell communicators, probably with a character from that time?!
...yeah, next week.

Oh my...

My subscription is running out and I was just going to let it end and renew it when Discovery started back up, of course I can't do that now. Nope.

Decades back, when I was working fast food, a girl who'd never seen a urinal before had to clean the restrooms, and was asking about the special hand sink in the men's room...

When I was 16, I had to explain to my mother that urinals didn't have stalls around them. I was shocked she didn't know. I mean, I realize that she had never been in a men's room, but there are plenty of bathroom scenes in movies.

Please tell me she found out "urinal cakes" aren't edible...

This might upset those who hate diversity or the Homosexual Agenda, but I'm very glad they left things open for Boimler to have a boyfriend somewhere down the line. At one point, I was kind of hoping that Mariner and Barb might hook up, but thinking about it I'm glad they didn't hurt Brad by doing that. It would have been a cynical joke of the type I loathe.

I gave this episode an 8. Not quite as good as Moist Vessel, but it did a better job showing the premise of the series. I loved Freeman's frustration dealing with the petty diplomacy.

The graphics of the series are a true delight. I like that the characters still look cartoony, but that there is a lot of effort invested in showing what happens in space.
