One thing that bugged me: I believed that the mystical crewmember said "decorporation" to describe his journey. The usage made no sense, although it could have been a means by the writers to make fun of his cliched spiritualism. (Or maybe I misheard.)

I think you misheard. Consider...

materialize/de-materilize
sensitize/de-sensitize
contaminate/de-contaminate

corporeal/...

cor·po·re·al

relating to a person's body, especially as opposed to their spirit.

having a body.

There is a god in Star Trek now and it's a koala. That's canon.

There's always been gods in Star Trek, of all varieties and sorts. Just not a God.

The spiritual path this guy was on apparently led to a god that manifests itself a koala, at least to him.

ST: TMP was originally released with a G rating and featured a supporting character who had to take an oath of celibacy so that her overpowering sexual pheromones wouldn't drive the male humanoids aboard any ship on which she served crazy with desire.

Food for thought.

Enjoyable episode, liking Captain Freeman a lot more.

It was pretty weak that the crisis' catalyst was Durango moving his ship for literally no reason at all.

That was so dumb.

What's it gonna take to get some Queer representation on this show? I guess I should expect this sort of thing from huge TNG fans where vaguely alluding to a gender issue was so amazing to them. It's a little disappointing, and with Boimler's girlfriend being a major plot point for next week, the heteronormativity seems here to stay. Boo!

Why is that so important to you? You have 5 (or is it 6?) gay characters in two crews on Discovery and Picard to balance things out for you. Anyway this is CBSTrek, you'll get gay characters shoehorned into Lower Decks, don't worry.

Not every show needs to have a homosexual in it. It’s not like there’s a quota they need to follow

Agree. And I say this as a gay man. Unfortunately some people need to feel validated. I've never understood that train of thought.

Forgot to mention...I noticed Ransom doing the Riker-propping-up-his-leg thing a few times here. Has he done that before?

Holy crap, this was a WILDLY uneven episode. The first seven minutes or so was the worst the show's ever been, with Mariner's behavior in the cold open so unforgivably, utterly obnoxious as to almost completely ruin the character for all time.
I guess they didn't release the opening scene this time because they knew it could annoy people more than any other opening so far.

I still hope Boims is bi.

Moist is famously one of those words that sounds absolutely terrible unless it is describing cake.
Someone I know wanted mustard sauce with his McD nuggets, but got his words mixed up and said moisture XD

Do you honestly not know what ascension is?
Moving to a different form of existence, which requires a new evolutionary step in the whole species (John Doe), or help from similar non-corporeal beings (Wes, Sisko), but does not happen randomly by itself (as it did here).

Just....do something unexpected.
*pushes Gepard into the ocean*

So weird that in a show ostensibly oriented at kids they do a barely obfuscated reference to holodeck sex having to be cleaned up.
It never was and still is not.

Maybe it's a Q-ala.

Why are they shoehorned in? Are straight people also shoehorned in? Black people?

Straight people inclusion doesn't get them pats on the back and good PR/woke points. Gay people do. Culber's entire purpose on Discovery was to be a walking billboard for gay relationships in Trek. It's basically all he offered.

Personally I tend to want to see good, compelling characters. That's the first thing I look for. Not what their sexuality is. Obviously @ToddCam is different and sexuality is the top priority.

4. Everyone was just annoying in this episode. The pay off to the ascension story was very good but the set up for it was just super annoying. I just wanted to slap everyone.

Culber had a compelling arc in the second season coming to terms with being whatever he became after returning from the Mycellial Network and sought out help from Admiral Cornwell (who was a trained psychologist) at one point. He also had issues with Tyler and wanted to --- justifiably from his point of view -- settle a score. But you can't see passed his orientation.

All I'll say about this since this isn't the DSC Forum. I just wanted to point out that Culber became more than he was during the first season.

You're right Culber did visit Admiral Cornwell for a pep talk in one scene. Cool.

Hopefully they make him a worthwhile character in season 3 that actually adds something to the show. Maybe we can find something about him too, apart from the fact that he likes opera.
