Interestingly enough, Trekmovie suggests in their eastereggs breakdown for “Temporal Edict” that the scene is a reference to a scene in the movie “Battle for the Planet of the Apes”. Especially the aspect of the classroom in the far future and the statue. I had missed this earlier, but @Lord Garth suggested the same reference upthread.

I thought is was just the typical hippy enlightenment style class room I've seen many time.
