Trek guest actors in maybe surprising roles

very old pic of Majel Barrett i got off Getty Images back when she trod the boards. It’s astonishingly hard to find 70 yr old pics of her

Another collaboration between John Williams and Alexander Courage was Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, where Courage scored the film based on Williams's themes -- sort of halfway between composing and orchestration (and basically the same job Ken Thorne had on the previous two Superman movies).

I think my father (a classical radio announcer and something of an authority on music) once told me -- probably in connection with a discussion of Superman IV -- that Courage was considered one of the great film orchestrators, more famous in industry circles as an orchestrator than as a composer.

The Superman IV liner notes (both FSM and La La Land editions) go into more detail about the Williams-Courage collaboration. And it says they were long-time friends.

Review: I was watching the “Trek Stars Go West” DVD this morning and I this episode is the first episode on that DVD set. Considering that Monday was August 10, and this episodes 60th anniversary, I thought I’d post about an early, pre-Star Trek appearance by Leonard Nimoy. The episode also features Frank Overton, who would guest star on the TOS episode “This Side of Paradise”. Also, while not in this episode, TATE’s third episode from June 22, 1960, featured Deep Space Nine semi-regular Louise Fletcher, and episode 6 featured Marianna Hill who would appear in TOS “Dagger of the Mind” as Lt. Helen Noel. Also another interesting thing is that this show was produced by Perry Como’s Roncom Productions, kind of like how TOS was produced by Lucille Ball’s Desilu Productions.

I’m not really a western guy, but it was interesting seeing Leonard Nimoy as a Commanche. This was obviously 4 years before he would even play Spock, but I could see Spock coming out of his performance. Of course nowadays in 2020, how Nimoy played the Commanche would not be acceptable, however we are talking about a show from 1960, so 2020 standards should not be applied. And it looks like the show has fallen into the public domain.
Otherwise, the show really wasn’t that interesting.

Rating: 5.5/10

Not really sure what to do with this, since it is not about TOS.

Rather than close it, I'll merge it with the "Surprising Roles" thread.

Paul Baxley (again) Ed McCready, Gregg Palmer, John Arndt and William O'Connell in The Knightly Murders, an episode of Kolchak:The Night Stalker!

i hated seeing Nimoy made up as an injun

Also starring Nancy Sinatra, Bill Bixby, and Gale Gordon!

I wonder if they pulled tricks to make Elvis look taller in his films. A quick search says that there was only a three-inch difference between him and Bixby (6'0" vs. 5'9"), but Elvis seemed to tower over Bill.

William Zuckert showed up on H5O again, as the father of a kidnap victim ("The Devil and Mr. Frog," Dec. 10, 1969). I thought I had a twofer with one of the titular kidnappers...why is it that when I see Frank Marth, I think he was on Trek?

ETA: Just caught Stanley Adams as a con artist and Davis Roberts as a reverend in Dragnet 1970, "Bunco – $9,000" (Dec. 11, 1969).
