Saru’s arc has been him taking a leadership role and learning to trust Burnham again. I think he’ll be captain with Burnham as commander.
It will be that guy waiting on Vulcan since season one ended. Dude is very patience.
Yeah. It would be quite a huge gap between Season 5 (2022 or '23) and TV Movie 1 (2026). Even for Disco. My bet, which is based on absolutely nothing save for a gut feeling, is that Saru will captain the Discovery until the final few episodes of the season, at which point Michael will take over for whatever plot-related reason the writers have cooked up. She'll keep the captaincy for the fourth and fifth seasons, after which the show will end -- save for three "TV movie" sequels created in 2026, 2027, and 2029.
I'll try to remember to quote this post periodically as my ridiculously unfounded predictions are proven false one after the other.![]()

How will she effect the Star Trek Universe as a whole? It is a prequel but Leonard Nimoy's Spock never mentioned her in any incarnation of Star Trek (TOS, TAS, TMPs, TNG, JJTrek not even video games) he'd ever been involved.Do you think Burnham will become The Captain by the end of the third season?
Well, it's not a prequel in the third season. It takes place in the 32nd Century. How will she effect the Star Trek Universe as a whole? I agree on the alien captain part but Saru is likable enough that I think it fits the character in terms of growth. But, yeah, having an alien captain for the sake of saying "alien captain!" is not sufficient for me. Same with the hyper flagellation over characters not being from Earth. I get that Earth isn't the most desirable place at the moment but writers often write what they know.I seem to be in the vast minority in that I have zero interest in seeing Saru in command. I like the character, but an alien captain does nothing for me.
This is not an issue for me... BUT I think he won't be permanently in command for another reason.I seem to be in the vast minority in that I have zero interest in seeing Saru in command. I like the character, but an alien captain does nothing for me.
Hmmm.I myself am leaning towards she won't be.
Yes, self. Keep that in mind. They wouldn't want to give away something so important in the very first trailer. Especially when so little of the season was actually shot up to that point.Granted this trailer came out in October 2019, three months after they started shooting, so that would still be from the early part of the season.

So I'm seriously the only one hoping for Captain Killy, er, Tilly?
I mean, that's literally part of Fallout 3.I got the impression the Federation and Starfleet were in ruins from Season 3 material (just guessing I don't have any inside info). So does it really matter who is captain? This would be like, in the Fallout video games, several NPCs fighting over who gets to be president of the United States when all of America in those games is a deserted wasteland.
