CBS All Access is close to being a perfect streaming service

With the recent addition of Viacom properties to the service, I feel less like its a "Star Trek" service, and more like its a proper media hub. Of course this comes down to preference and what shows a person likes. Just off the top of my head, here is what I love about the service:

    • Star Trek (Of course)
    • Survivor
    • Twilight Zone
    • Classic Nickelodeon shows (Not as many as id like though)
    • Tons of classic shows in general
While all of that is great, its so close to being absolutely perfect for me. Id like to see more content from Nickelodeon on the service, plus Comedy Central shows (Daily Show, South Park). If they pull that off it may very well be the most used streaming service I own.

What are everyone's thoughts on CBS All Access after all these years?

Having just signed up again for Lower Decks, I love that Star Trek has its own section! (I don't think it did the last time I used it)

I have nothing else to say. I just think that's pretty cool.

It is really cool! I think they used to have one that was more hidden but im not sure about that.

Also I just wanted to add that when you made your account I wasn't even two years old yet! It makes me feel so old

Honestly, I haven't really felt a need to get CBS All Access since I live in Canada and everything on All Access is available on broadcast TV in Canada anyway. The Star Treks are all available on CTV Sci-Fi, the new Twilight Zone is on City TV. I'm surprised CBS even bothered with a Canadian outlet for All Access, there's literally no incentive to get it. Hell, the Star Treks are also available on CTV Sci-Fi's website, cable on-demand, and a separate streaming service that's only available in Canada, Crave.

You're completely right. The service is really only even worth considering in the US. Hopefully when they relaunch and rebrand next year itll be better internationally. Especially with Lower Decks since it seems most people have no legal access to it at the moment.

IIRC, Bell Media, who owns CTV Sci-Fi, and the Crave streaming service has a contract in place that allows them the current Star Trek shows for the next five years at least. So Canadian Trekkies anyway have no need to bother with CBS All Access until at least 2025.

Still use it exclusively for new Trek, and the odd Tosh.O rerun.

I'm annoyed that the Daily Show isn't current episodes like the Late Night shows. Whats the point if I can't watch yesterday's show?

Oddly enough it wasnt available even when Comedy Central had its own streaming service.

Not only that, but some of the other Treks like Next-Gen are available on Netflix. So, we're already well covered.

You're definitely not missing anything. I got a free three-month subscription last year... and there was pretty much nothing on it that actually interested me. I think through the entire three months, I only ended up watching one episode of one show. There was another show that sounded like it could be interesting, but they didn't have the first season on the service, so I didn't see the point of jumping in at somewhere other than the beginning.

I made sure to cancel before the three months ended, since there was no way I was going to pay for such a lacklustre service.

(Note that this was in 2019, so things may have improved more recently?)

I think with some more original programming that they could be a viable force whenever they rebrand. Star Trek isn't enough to please everybody and The Twilight Zone is never going to be mainstream unless they get some better writing.

The suits want to rebrand CBS All Access. A possible contender being mentioned is Paramount+, joining all the other Plus streaming services out there. Also, it's already called Paramount+ in some international markets.

It's not as bad as it's rep but really it's just biding it's time until they combine it with Showtime to create something with a little more clout and shows of high quality in general.

Not until they vastly improve the quality of the browser player. (And the streaming-device player isn't much better.)

I've been pretty pleased with their UEFA Champions League coverage. So much better than B/R Live's, and cheaper.
