“8 shows now on the air or in the works”

Certainly lends credence to Section 31 still being on the cards, despite what a lot of the grifters would have us believe.

As for the unannounced show, I can’t see it being a Discovery spin-off; we already have two of those.
Either a Picard spin-off or another animated show. That’s what I’d put my money on, personally.

I’m curious to know if CBS considers Short Treks to be an actual show, or if they even plan to make more.

I agree, I wouldn't have thought to list Short Treks as a series. But they also make a point to show Star Trek: The Ready Room in that reel so maybe its:

  1. Discovery
  2. Short Treks
  3. Picard
  4. Lower Decks
  5. Strange New Worlds
  6. Prodigy
  7. Ready Room
  8. Section 31

I wouldn't necessarily call 'Ready Room' a full on 'show' per se - as it's more run by CBS marketing/promotion.

So is the Twitter account and they would want the number of shows they can brag about to be as high as possible.

It's not marketed as a show though.

It is marketed as a show in that video, and that tweet is where the 8 number comes from.
Also, I think we are reading into the number too much, Watch it again and count the shows:
  1. Lower Decks
  2. Picard
  3. Discovery
  4. Short Treks
  5. Strange New Worlds
  6. Ready Room
  7. Prodigy
  8. The Next Generation

Oversaturation. Good to know they learned nothing from the 90’s.

Yeah. When do the laws of diminishing returns kick in?

I did love in the 90s having 2 shows on at the same time, but this is different because this year and next there will be like 4 shows on throughout the year, albeit not together.

There’s a difference, though. ‘90’s Trek overlapped between two seasons, while CBS’s thinking here is that when one show breaks between seasons, another show takes its place, therefore there’s no time when Trek isn’t on the air.

Sometimes your audience needs a break.
