Oh, yeah, I remember her.She was a helm officer in the late seasons of TNG, I think immediately after Wesley left.
And it was Gates, not Yates.
Sisko said that Worf would never get a command in Change of Heart because he put saving his wife over an important mission, so I think he will only be XO.
why doesn't riker learning some history make sense?Because it doesn't make sense for the story as presented.
why does a high-ranking former enterprise vet visiting the new one make no sense? It didn't make sense in context of the story. Picard, Quark and even Cochrane made sense in context, and not just fan service.
why would a franchise not service its fans once in a while?Having it make sense in context of the story is a better reason. I don't have objections to characters appearing but have it make sense in the context of the story, and have those characters fit in a way that suits those characters and the story being told. Having them randomly show up 'cause "connecting eras" is not a good enough reason for me. It's fan service for the sake of fan service.
In the middle of a crisis situation? No, it makes no sense.why doesn't riker learning some history make sense?
Oh, this old admiral is just wandering the ship? I guess we'll just let him...McCoy was supposedly there to inspect the medical facilities and yet has been there all day. Again, it makes no sense. And his interactions with Data are just there to have McCoy complain about transporters and Vulcans-again. It's not additive.why does a high-ranking former enterprise vet visiting the new one make no sense?
Because then fan service becomes the expectation rather than "once in a while."why would a franchise not service its fans once in a while?![]()
he was on the bridge when they started their search, and on the ship when they approached it. they pretended to keep searching for hours, IIRC.In the middle of a crisis situation? No, it makes no sense.
sure, admirals who were on predecessors of flagships are not allowed to stay longer than needed, or to look at anything besides sickbay. they're also not allowed to interact with the new crew. It doesn't make sense in the context of that story. It's Riker just moving about, no sense of urgency, no push to make a decision.he was on the bridge when they started their search, and on the ship when they approached it. they pretended to keep searching for hours, IIRC.
What did his interaction with Data add? Did we learn something new? Was McCoy's character additive to the world as a whole? In my opinion, no. McCoy was showed to be old and cranky, and continuing on with his fear of the transporter even though he had used multiple times from TMP to TUC. And still has a thing about Vulcans being annoying. That equals character...sure, admirals who were on predecessors of flagships are not allowed to stay longer than needed, or to look at anything besides sickbay. they're also not allowed to interact with the new crew. Really? Because it's becoming the drum beat of demand around fan circles that I spend time in is fan service. We already have a bunch in Discovery and Picard and now SNW. The moment a new show appears the speculation (and demands) start. "We want Worf! Where's Crusher!? Geordi should appear!" It's a band being yelled at to play their first album rather than their newest stuff.this makes no sense.

So, yeah, nostalgic demands rather than wanting something new...The average All Access subscriber is 44. This is much younger than the median CBS broadcast viewer, but basically the age where there would be peak nostalgia for Berman Trek.
how long did it take to get to that system? pressman went to 10 fwd, pressman and picard had a drink in his quarters, riker played with a bat'leth on the holodeck, finding the ship in the asteroid took 6 h, they waited till the next morning to return to it, picard had dinner in his quarters, riker had "the luxury of time"...It doesn't make sense in the context of that story. It's Riker just moving about, no sense of urgency, no push to make a decision.
does the last scene of an episode have to add anything to the world? we learned he's still alive. which last scene of an episode was additive enough for you? What did his interaction with Data add? Did we learn something new? Was McCoy's character additive to the world as a whole? In my opinion, no. and they only demand appearances of old characters because bones was on the D? otherwise no fan would have that idea? XDReally? Ah, so the odd meandering is a feature not bug? Yeah, sorry, it doesn't fit for me. It's a bizarre way to handle a crisis that was handled better in the Pegasus episode itself. Riker comes across as bored in TATV, and lacks that emotional intensity.how long did it take to get to that system? pressman went to 10 fwd, pressman and picard had a drink in his quarters, riker played with a bat'leth on the holodeck, finding the ship in the asteroid took 6 h, they waited till the next morning to return to it, picard had dinner in his quarters, riker had "the luxury of time"...
Very few actually. Which is a rather unfortunate thing.does the last scene of an episode have to add anything to the world? we learned he's still alive. which last scene of an episode was additive enough for you?
Since that isn't what I said I'll just assume you're joking and move on.and they only demand appearances of old characters because bones was on the D? otherwise no fan would have that idea? XD
all those the things i mentioned, people having time, were shown in pegasus itselfAh, so the odd meandering is a feature not bug? Yeah, sorry, it doesn't fit for me. so it fits well with the rest and does what almost all episodes do. what's the problem?Very few actually. Which is a rather unfortunate thing.
you wrote "fan service becomes the expectation" after it is done once in a while - what else did you mean then?Since that isn't what I said I'll just assume you're joking and move on.
Special courtroom drama episode. Sisko vs Picard. The stakes, Worf's career. With a famous captain like Picard fighting for him, I could see starfleet reconsidering.
The tone doesn't fit. Riker's inclusion in the ENT story doesn't work. Not sure what else I can say that hasn't already been said.all those the things i mentioned, people having time, were shown in pegasus itself
It doesn't fit and isn't additive. The fact that other episodes have similar tags doesn't inspire confidence that they will work this time.so it fits well with the rest and does what almost all episodes do. what's the problem?
That fan demands do not make good stories. That fan service is not a good thing.you wrote "fan service becomes the expectation" after it is done once in a while - what else did you mean then?
