THE ORVILLE Season Three...

I wish Alara would come back.

To be honest, I don't, not as a regular. Don't get me wrong, she was my absolute favourite character from the beginning, and my biggest crush since Kes, but she shouldn't return to her old position. The reason; her last episode was the absolute best they ever did! I would nominate it for a Hugo. All the stuff on disability, impossible expectations, and even the MMR controversy. As an autistic, from a family with only one neurotypical, all this meant so much to me. It would be a near Fury level crime to undo it. Alara's place is now on Xelaya.

That said, Halston Sage said she had been to LA for one job just before lockdown, could that be...

I really hope she makes a virtual panel appearance, though. I want to thank her.

They wouldn't have to undo her connection to her homeland to find a way to write her back in.

She could be involved in trying to talk her people into dropping the pacifism for an extinction level threat to other races and act as a representative for her people.

My biggest issue with her going back to The Orville, is I really don't want to lose her on Prodigal Son. If she could squeeze in an occasional guest appearance on The Orville, I'd be all for it, but with Prodigal Son appearing to be filmed in NYC, I could see where she might not want to be constantly going back and forth from one coast to the other.

the twist with her was great. I'm sorry it had to skip a couple episodes of development because of the shutdown though.

I know it's a huge longshot, but does anybody have any connections with people involved with the show? I wrote a spec script and would love to find some way somebody involved with the show could review it. I saw an interview with Doug Drexler where he talked about how much of his career success came from trying bold things, and so I'm trying to take that wisdom to heart in how I try to network to people involved.

PS: Hi everybody, it's probably been a couple years since I last checked in here. I was a regular here during the airing of Enterprise and have many fond memories of this community. Hope all the old guard who is still here is doing well and am glad there are many new and active people here too.

Season 3 to be its last.

Better that than vaporware for renewing it for up to season 69 out of the blue.

According to The Cinema Spot, it appears that The Orville, MacFarlane’s most recent live-action production, has not been renewed for a fourth season by Hulu. While it may seem like Hulu cancelled the show at first glance, apparently a fourth season was never planned. In fact, Disney might not have even produced the third season had it not been for a contractual obligation – the show was renewed before the Disney/Fox merger.

(emphasis added to the fun parts)

The article has more and I do recall the go-ahead for season 3 was given at the last moment, surprisingly...

Season 2 did drop ratings figures that showed a ratings drop* off the bat, which never fully recovered. The article claims season 2 had an all-time high^^), and the episode they started out with was one of the show's all-time worst. At least for the Bortus plot, the errant children plot was far better and something TNG by its very charter could have done. (Oh wait, Gene felt that 24th century kids wouldn't behave like mid-20th~early-21st century kids... some of his ideas were quaint but many were genuinely unrealistic to a fault... but I digress.

* gawd, can't believe I stooped to today's level in the lame, devolved mangling of the formerly-palatial language, gag me with a spoon and buy some merch... Not really, but I doubt people recognize the difference in our Idiocracy**...

^^ https://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/the-orville-season-one-ratings/ and https://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/the-orville-season-two-ratings/ sorta disprove the article's claim season 2 got higher... Episode quality may have improved (subjectively) but they're talking ratings, where people sat and tuned in to watch some action and acting.

** a fictional movie that was a sci-fi comedy for low-hanging satirical effect and is revered by some as a cult classic, and not an instruction manual along with the other greats of "1984" and "Brave New World". Which is errant nonsense, it's all about teh slang... :nyah:

Not true. Was already debunked on reddit by one of the editors of the show.

Cool. With luck, all these industry sites telling it's canceled will put up updates reflecting that when they get an official update.

I mean, even the linked article reads:

Meaning, all they had to justify that there won't be a fourth season is that it hasn't been renewed yet. Which is a weird standart, considering the third season hasn't even started airing (or streaming, now that it's on Hulu). Everything else in the article appears to be speculation based on that little presumption.

Well, that's a shame if it's indeed proven true. While it wasn't the best show, it was still very enjoyable and it was definitely improving over the course of two seasons.

Let's hope it's not true.

Season 2 for me was fairly rock solid overall despite limited episode count and still taking the time to do a couple of dumb filler episodes despite it all. (Season 1 I felt was still the best overall, but season 2 had the best individual moments... )

Perception is a multi-faceted thing. But live action filming had been completed and "first glance" could have their peeps being pessimistic too. In the end, it's still speculative presumption and is that entertaining in its own right or what?

And the article also, perhaps without realizing it, made an error in stating season 2 ratings went up. Which is not the case. If season 3 picks up then chances are it would be renewed. Clickbait - love that 21st century media.

Well, I actually tried Prodigal Son (it's just started in my country), but I had to give up. It's more for fans of The All-New Jean-Luc Grimdark Show! Before you ask, I deliberately spoilered myself on her twist
and I'm glad she's still a troubled daughter and not a criminal mastermind. Not that different from Home, where Alara does kill (I'm not entirely comfortable with that point), though it was almost certainly easier to act it as a trained killer than a normal person! Acting is a very strange profession! How does anyone do it?! I just hope the killer's mind doesn't trouble her too much in real life.

BTW, did she get open an actual jar of pickles?

Yeah, to say Prodigal Son is dark would be a pretty big understatement. It's probably one of the darkest shows I've ever seen on a network, it's pretty much Hannibal level stuff.

Yeah, it's appropriate that the leading actor's last name is Payne.
