This hit the jackpot. Nothing will top this in controversy. Except Tuvix.

Kirk's life definitely takes a sad turn in the post-STVI novels. He bangs a cadet in one book, his nephews end up involved in the Orion Syndicate in another, and eventually he leaves Starfleet just so re can captain the Enterprise again (now sold to a planet's small defence force) and marries a half-Klingon in another.

They're not all meant to be the same universe, but I like to see it as one midlife crisis after another:lol:

I have recently seen "A Piece Of The Action" for the first time, and HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATED it. Agonizingly stupid garbage. It joins "Code Of Honor", "Profit & Lace", "Threshold", "Horizon", and "The Icarus Factor" on my shortlist of Worst Star Trek Episodes Ever.

In fairness, most half-Klingons seem to hate Klingons, too.

He certainly didn't trust them, and he never forgave them.

You say that as if it's a bad thing.

In seriousness though I bet a lot of military career types are the same.

A career of helping people. Real pathetic. :guffaw: Of course, he wasn't always perfect despite it all... but it's too easy (and admittedly fun) to turn sequels to his adventures into overused dystopaian turns where Shahna becomes a leader and they make a ship after a couple decades due to the Providers' help and she goes out to kill the guy who dined and ditched her, etc... never mind what could be done from "The Apple" and on two fronts (Vaal's slaves... oh, and Vaal's own people it kept transmitting to all that time but ceased.) The Horta joins Starfleet and then turns everyone into BBQ out of boredom, etc.

    ^^this

"A Piece Of The Action" = Batman-wannabe camp that falls on every level. Except for using 1920s props and costumes. The "parallel earth development" was such a pointless crutch at this point.
"Code of Honor" = the script using 1D racist stereotypes ruins a story that's apparently supposed to highlight Yar and in a subplot make Picard look bad (sheesh, even Kirk never violated the Prime Directive by shooting torpedoes across the planet in an act that won't compel Lutan to do anything regardless)
"Profit & Lace" = more 1D cliches, except it's trying to be comedy
"Threshold" = it's trying radically to not be cliche but also radically fails
"Icarus Factor" = how 24th century people were abandoned and/or latch key kids too? They didn't get away from that by then?
"Horizon" = so bad some people haven't even seen it once
"Justice" = even more 1D racial stereotyping, and the Prime Directive subversion is as hackneyed as anything could get

Let's start a controversy. In the following scene, is Sisko portrayed in a good light or not?

(I'm in the "not", camp, Q is right about him)

I say it does largely because it is Sisko giving Q exactly what he wants. Sisko, especially early on, is a man who struggles with the loss and threatening of people under his command and care.

Because they are written by people who have a eurocentric attitude and like to perpetuate the myth of the tragic mulatto, using fictional part human part alien characters as a stand in.

    Okay, here goes...
I like Tuvix. I certainly prefer him to Neelix, and I'd be willing to sacrifice one of my favorite VGR characters, Tuvok, to keep him.
I can't stand Q and I only like him in the one episode where he was briefly mortal.
Space Seed is one of my least favorite TOS episodes, I detest Khan to the point that I like Nemesis more than I like TWOK.
I think Seven and the Borg Queen ruined the Borg as villains.
I don't think it was necessary to get rid of Kes to bring in Seven. I resented the change so much that I almost gave up watching the show in the 4th season.

I'm kind of with you - I disliked Tuvok intensely and Neelix was only bearable due to the skill of Ethan Phillips - Tuvix was an improvement !

Q never dared challenge The Sisko again.

Thankfully that dreadful character would never be seen in DS9 again but would go on to plague VOY.

That's right, I said it. Q was an awful.

Q never bothered with the childish, easily provoked and uninteresting Sisko ever again. As he said, Picard had repartee, Sisko did not.
In fact, Sisko was more deserving of the "eat any good book lately" retort than Worf. Worf's "die" was witty.
