Dune 2018 (19,20,21...)

Would people pay for spectacle movie like this even if it's only 5-6 bucks? Much of the appeal of big blockbusters like the Marvel movies is the big screen and the professional soundsystem, most people don't have a decent or professional home theatre system, at best it's a decently sized flatscreen since they are not that expensive anymore and some additional sound system if at all.
Just one point, the new movies going up for rental on Amazon are $20, not $5 or $6.

The constant pushing back of the movies over, and over, and over is almost starting the feel a bit ridiculous. Even if it's not going to be bring in the numbers that a theatrical release would, I would think it would it be better to get some kind of money coming in, and to get the movies in front of some eyeballs.

I want it to be pushed back to 2022 just so this thread title becomes more prophetic.

Seriously, Brian & Kevin? Even Lynch - hell, even Jodorowsky knew better than to spend more than one or two extra scenes setting things up.

Yup. Which was supposedly the point of the original prequels, and then also the point of the interquels. Keep in mind the last trilogy was cancelled after sales had collapsed. They're banking on people new to the IP through the movie buying it.

Edit:. I MIGHT get the Dune graphic novel (NOT the House Atreides graphic novel) for the art. I want a Dune tattoo and the movie art we've seen is too facist (not a criticism). I saw someone tattooed the new movies Atreides hawk to his arm and grimaced. Someone's gonna mistake that for the Nazi Pheonix.

Not exactly, the last trilogy, the Schools of Dune (Sisterhood of Dune, Mentats of Dune, Navigators of Dune) was published fully, so we can infer those books must have done decent sales. The cancelled trilogy.

What you're thinking of which was cancelled was actually a planned quadrilogy called the Heroes of Dune, the interquel series which had two of is planned four books published: Paul of Dune, a Paul centred story set in between Dune and Dune Messiah and Winds of Dune, a Jessica centred story set between Dune Messiah and Children of Dune. The cancelled books were Throne of Dune, believed to be a Princess Irulan centred novel also in that same period and Golden Path of Dune, believed to be a Leto II novel set at some point after Children of Dune.

On a side note, after writing "of Dune" so many times in this post, it reminded me of a joke I heard a few years ago wondering how long before we get Uber of Dune, chronicling the adventures of an unlicensed Guild Navigator.

I thought it was the schools series that got cancelled part way?

I remember the Simpsons "of Dune" joke with the most prominent one being "Accountants of Dune" and then they actually announced "Mentats of Dune"

I...would actually read that (not written by Brian Herbert & Kevin J. Anderson, of course).

I've long since decided it's best to just ignore literally anything Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum say and/or do in relation to Dune. They're going to do them, come what may.

Wow, they are really stretching to find ways to keep writing these books.
The first couple prequel trilogies, and of course the two books finishing up the main series made sense, but these last two or three series have just seemed like kind of pointless.

It's amazing how they manage to keep finding more notes left behind by Frank Herbert...
It's funny, after recently rereading the original Dune, I noted there's a lot of plot points from the Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson novels which are either throwaway references in the novel proper, or talked about in the appendixes in the back. I strongly suspect the "based on Frank Herbert's notes" is an extremely embellished way of saying "we expanded on stuff mentioned in the book(s)."
It amazes me at this point...

...I actually enjoy some of their books.
Truth be told, I still willingly buy each one and read it and do plan on buying and reading Duke of Caladan when it comes out. Yes, the books are flawed, but I can't help it, they are guilty pleasures.

They could tone down the torture porn a bit though.

TBH: I loved the vast majority of the Dune books. The ones written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson not so much - but it was better than getting nothing (IMO).
