What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

The Voyage Home was the first dopey, weak Trek movie. The grand strum-und-drang epic trilogy that began with The Wrath of Khan and The Search for Spock concludes in... a fluffy romp through San Francisco, to resolve an out-of-left-field threat having nothing whatsoever to do with the previous films!
Generations is a damn good, thematically strong film about accepting the passage of time. “Do you smell something burning?”
And not only that, First Contact is the weakest of the TNG movies, with a bwaha villain and the requisite nonsensical action-movie one-liners — but only after a strong opening ten minutes. Those opening ten minutes, Starfleet’s desperate struggle with the Borg? I wanted the whole film to be that. If you’re doing the Borg invasion, do the Borg invasion!

I liked S31, and their inclusion in DS9, found the very idea of S31 interesting. It worked as a one time look at a secret society, a small group within the hero cuture.
Had the whole "Men in Black" thing going on.
Or the other way around. Star Trek has plenty of people with various magical powers, mind readers, telekinesis, what not.
A whole movie of space combat and phaser battles? No thanks, only in small portions. The movie was fine in it's released form.
I didn’t even think the appearances in Enterprise were that bad.
It has suffered very much from overuse.
I'm such a huge fan of DSC, but I only gave "The Vulcan Hello" / "Battle at the Binary Stars" a 7 out of 10. That probably makes some people wonder, if I'm such a huge fan of it, why did I "only" give the first two hours a 7? It's the same reason I don't consider Michael Burnham to be a "Mary Sue". Like I've said before, I think she royally fucked up, and I sided with Georgiou all the way. But Burnham was so bone-headed about it, and the way Georgiou went out was so lame, that as much as I like the rest of it... I can't give it any higher than a 7. And I do like the rest of it, but because of how those key parts were handled, I had to knock the rating down a bit.
Given Burnham's behavior and actions during the first two episodes, it's difficult to see how Georgiou could hold Burnham in such apparent high regard.
Unless Georgiou was a profoundly poor judge of character. She was during the brief time we see her depicted as a supposed talented captain, although it's possible she wasn't.

Georgiou was so enamored with the potential of Burnham she became blind to the flaws.
I loved Section 31 in Discovery. Giving the "utopian" Federation a secret service complete with fleet of black deathships brought a dark realism to the universe, and a mirror of our present day.
If I want dark realism, I’d go watch The Expanse or any number of other shows that do it better than Discovery.
Or, just watch both.

I enjoy FC.... as a Star Trek action flick. But Insurrection, despite all its flaws, hit more of a TNG note than FC ever did.
And The Voyage Home is as overrated. Enjoyable, but not a great movie.
I don't think that was a good thing though.
Thinking about Insurrection reminds me of Justice and Way of Eden mashed together.
The Voyage Home is the only essential movie, in my mind. Such a great script.
That's always going to a matter of opinion ofcourse. And that's cool.
If you're going to watch one Star Trek movie to get the whole picture of the film series, it's TMP.
I'm serious. Everything in there is repeated in the later films.
1. A probe is heading for Earth that will destroy the planet if it doesn't communicate with who it's seeking.
2. Klingons. They're fearsome and obviously we see them in the rest of the TOS Films.
3. Spock isn't himself. Then gradually, over the course of the film, he becomes himself again.
4. Kirk is an Admiral, can't stand it, and wants to become a Captain again.
5. V'Ger is in search of The Creator. Sybok is in search of God.
6. The Enterprise is "new" and all the systems aren't ready yet.
This is all TOS Movie 101. TMP set the template more than you might think.
