Hey everyone! I’m doing a poll on what everyone’s favourite story arcs are in various Star Trek series.

Story arcs qualify if they are two-parters, three-parters, multi-episodes, and non-consecutive.

This poll will be looking at TOS/TAS story arcs. Multiple votes are allowed.

Vote and discuss your choices.

I love the Klingon Cold War arc stories. I find it hard to believe the Organians would allow the multitude of attacks by the Klingons on the Enterprise, but maybe they found a loophole where their attacks weren't "ordered" by the Empire as an act of war. Sort of a "don't ask, don't tell" attitude among various ship commanders to give the Empire leadership plausible deniability. :klingon:

There actually weren't any "Story Arcs" in TOS or TAS...

There were plenty of good stories but..?

Technically true, hence why the list was so small. But I made due with what I could find. One TOS episode led to a movie, a couple TOS episodes that ended up having follow-ups in TAS, and one with a connection with “The Cage”

I think you know which one I voted for. :techman:

The shore leave planet? :devil::guffaw:

I voted for Kor's arc too. :) As well as the Klingon cold war.

The Talos reinvention was pretty nifty... and unprecedented, if not serendipitous.

Khan and TWOK connection is somewhat loose in some ways thanks to Space Seed's open ending, but tight enough in others.

Speaking of Kor, here's Kor Lite:

Tastes great, less filling - it's all good!

Gives a partial insight into single camera-based show making too... and another Trek connection can be found in that video clip too... :D

Klingon Cold War for me - expertly portrayed in FC and PLW (as well as DOTD to some extent) but I would add the Romulans as well. Sure, they only appear onscreen twice, but they are threats in several other episodes and, unlike the Klingons, they were not utterly ruined by TNG et sequelae and continue to be excellent villains.

I think there are more “arcs” in which the later episodes have as their very premise a return of elements from a previous episode:

Mudd Trilogy
Tribbles Duology
Balance of Terror-The Enterprise Incident
Amok Time-Journey to Babel-Yesteryear

Agreed as to all but BOT-TEI. One is a masterpiece and the other is schlock. And there is almost nothing in common between the two eps.

Journey To Babel and Amok Time can be shown in either order as the BBC used to continually do throughout the seventies! :vulcan: Episodic television still rocks!

I would say that The Enterprise Incident definitely expanded on the geopolitical situation introduced in Balance of Terror. So to me, it makes kind of a loose thematic arc.

Romulans are back
The Neutral Zone is back
The Cloaking Device is back
The Romulan-Vulcan connection is back
These are all devices from BOT which are central to TEI.

Though not an arc as such, This Side of Paradise, The Apple, A Private Little War, The Paradise Syndrome and The Way To Eden all reference or infer a paradise/Eden-like setting, some directly, others implicit.

The political situation in Balance of Terror was that neither the Federation or the Romulan Empire had had any contact with each other for nearly two hundred years but by The Enterprise Incident the Romulans were aware of Captain Kirk and other officers and seemed to be in touch with the Federation at some level even if it was as an enemy! :vulcan:

I really do think the TOS style Klingons were scarier than the turtleheads of the films, TNG, DS9 and VOY! Maybe it was their heavy brow and sneer rather than thicker skin? The Conker head look in DSC is totally not for me either! Their similarity to humans and their sneakiness, their honour came much later! Although I'm no fan of ENT I did like the Klingon two parter explaining their changing even if it could have been done in a different and in better way! When the first Klingon became affected with the virus I could see the old style features and that made me sit up with this show for the first time ever! :klingon:
