But seriously I hope his death was some sort of symbolic Sooner send off and we never again have to see him play another Dr Soong in any Star Trek
Why is that? I prefer Dr. Soong over Data at this point. But seriously I hope his death was some sort of symbolic Sooner send off and we never again have to see him play another Dr Soong in any Star Trek
I dont want either. We have had 3 Dr Soongs and 3 data model androids and Datas ghost with B4s story being especially suspect so if another Soong turns up in the 32nd century DIS and also happens to be a Dr. I might just crackWhy is that? I prefer Dr. Soong over Data at this point.
I mean, I doubt it will happen but if it does I'm certain my sanity will remain intact.I dont want either. Ok Alton exists now so might as well use him but please no new SoongsI'm fine with Spiner returning as Alton Soong. But yeah, I think he's too old to play the Soong-type androids at this point.
I felt that the Data in the box was just a ghost or flicker of the real Data and he knew you couldnt really go back. I cant think of a good comparison right now sadlyI don't see how it was out of character. He had basically experienced a lifetime in a purgatory style state, and had already said goodbye in Nemesis. Why would he want to go back when he basically had gone through multiple lifetimes stuck?
A shadow, like in the Nexus.I felt that the Data in the box was just a ghost or flicker of the real Data and he knew you couldnt really go back. I cant think of a good comparison right now sadly
Yes sir thats absolutely exactly what I was looking forA shadow, like in the Nexus.
watch time's arrow.Data's sudden desire to be killed without even saying goodbye to Geordi or anyone was just plain out of character. They should have given the role to a new actor (by putting Data in a new body, like they did with Picard), complete with aging etc. to give Data his wish of being human.
I've seen it several times. Yes Data has wanted finality in his life, but I think he'd like a full human style life first.watch time's arrow.
But it wouldn't be.I've seen it several times. Yes Data has wanted finality in his life, but I think he'd like a full human style life first.
No idea. One would hope, but given all the dangers going on that might have been overlooked. Recall that Data experiences time much differently than us.Wouldn't soong know if Data was suffering a lifetime of purgatory and simply put him on pause?
There's a reason why isolation is such a punishment.after 20 years of abject loneliness, I'd be ready to go too
Agreed. Also, Data already had a death in Nemesis close to 20 years ago; the writers could've focus more on the tired plot than what was given. The Star Trek android plots has been done forever and I was hoping the large team of producers could put something new to the table than universal destruction. Could androids uncover there's something beyond life as we know it? With these limited imaginations from the Kurtzman team, the answer is "No".Data's death wish didn't seem very fulfilling or especially well done to me - it rather felt like a tack on at the end to give some in-universe reason for Brent Spiner to no longer play the character.
