What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Rick Berman and Michael Piller would've had a fight on their hands if Gene Roddenberry lived; but the writing was on the wall, so they were able to develop DS9 without having to worry about what would've happened.

The first two years of Deep Space Nine, "The Maquis" aside, are pretty TNG/24th Century century Starfleet on the frontier and exploring new space, and with really little focus on the Prophets or Bajoran religion. Roddenberry would have pushed to tone down Sisko's antagonism in the pilot and yes to have more sense throughout that Starfleet was improving the station and the planet but otherwise he probably wouldn't have had much to object about, but he probably would have very much disliked the Maquis and the Dominion and going to war with them (and the increasing focus on Bajoran religion).

Maybe this is controversial, I think Piller genuinely respected and tried to stay true to Roddenberry's TNG vision/vision of the future, he didn't see the first two years of TNG as some big failed experiment or crazy stupid limitations (though the overall results were flawed and could be improved), he saw the vision and its limitations, constraints as challenging but worthwhile and rewarding to making good shows.

Is this controversial?

I think the mirror universe should've been kept in TOS only.
Possibly. I don't think it worked well in DS9, and ENT was just OK. I did enjoy it in DSC, but it would have been OK without.

Honestly, my favorite Mirror Universe stories are either TOS or Kelvin, especially in the comics.

The MU got over used by DS9. They could have done a one off and been fine. But then they decided we had to see the mirror counterpart to every character including dead ones like Bareil Jen Sisko.

ENT did theirs way closer to the spirt of the original.

Agree, I think Enterprise did a very good representation of the MU

You can watch Mirror, Mirror with just the isolated score on the Roddenberry Vault set. It’s an incredibly gorgeous and inventive episode, with great pacing and performances. It’s no surprise why it penetrated popular culture, and that the franchise has not ignored that well.

Avatar checks out.

Not a controversial opinion, but the response to it would be a Controversial Opinion at the time of its release:

I think they'll have a 60th Anniversary Special in 2026 where all the Star Trek series currently in-production will somehow crossover with each other across time and space.

Yes, a one off and never go back. Although the mirror arc on STD was pretty good, I wouldn't have missed it's absence.
but I honestly think ENT did it best
If mirror Archer had been severly toned down I would be able to agree. Ambitious imperial officer yes, looney tunes cartoon character no.

On one hand I would have loved to see the TNG Mirror Universe, just for curiosity's sake and to see what they would have done with Mirror Troi.
But on the other hand the Mirror Universe in Ds9 was pretty bad. And in the newer shows the Mirror Universe and the characters it spawns are even worse, so yeah, I'd be alright with it staying a TOS exclusive.

The IDW did TNG comic mirror universe series

In my head canon for TOS, I like to think that the Halkans were more than meets the eye, and the whole "mirror universe" scenario was a Halkan illusion to test our heroes in some bizarre way that we would find difficult to understand. But DS9 negated that possibility.

I'm not a fan of the quantum multiverse theory, so in my headcanon the events of Parallels are Q having fun with Worf and possibly trying to make his way of thinking less ridgid in that trickster mentor kind of way he sometimes has.
it's just some silly headcanon I have and I would have never mentioned it if not for your message :-P

I think I read that one, they gave Picard a beard and made him very buff didn't they? And Deanna ran around in a gown that was even more revealing than the things she wore on the show.

I haven't read the IDW comic, but Diane Duane's TNG novel Dark Mirror is fantastic.
