One of the too rare occasion where Kes was in a very serious situation where her personality and her new "power" save the crew (whule usuallly she used to give her moral support/understanding), even if it endangered her people in some moments. Jennifer Lien's acting was pretty good. What a shame she was unable to have good scenes before.
For my part, I particularly love the Janeway/Kes scene (or should I say, Mulgrew/Lien because these were them as close as they were and not their characters, who cried in each other arms). in Kes quarters for their goodbyes. :(

Alright but why do you hate this episode? Because it marked Jennifer Lien's departure from the show? Because the plot seemed forced?

I hate it because it marked Kes's exit from the series and because it was a badly written episode, just as if the writer wrote it whie he was sitting on the toilet for 10 minutes. Maybe he was doing that since the writers wanted Kes out of the series as soon as possible and he only got those 10 minutes to come up with that crap.

Totally unrealistic plot with that energy-being mumbo-jumbo and no explanation att all why her powers all of a sudden became so powerful when the only expansion of her powers we had seen was in "Cold Fire" when Tanis obviously controlled that since those powers disappeared after Tanis left the ship.

If they had wanted Kes to leave with dignity, they could have let her leave with that Zahir in "Darkling". That would at least have made some sense. Instead we got that unrealistic, thin and badly written story.

There's only one episode I hate even more and I guess that everyone knows which one it is.

I agree with you, Kes adieux were awkward and they could have surely written a better scenarii but it was nothing compared to what they have done to Lien and her character in Fury, which was a total mess and even insulting towards the actress, the character and to viewers who liked the lovely Kes.

What I really liked the most in "The Gift", was the emotion in this episode, which wasn't played but real, especially in all scenes between Lien and Mulgrew.

    Thx, CM.

As regards the Doctor, it is pretty difficult to decide whether his unifrom is green or blue ... it's actually something in between. Luckily, in GIMP there is a scale to choose from - so there are like hundreds of shades of blue and green and lots of "in-betweens" to pick the one you like from. So I played around with the colours a little and it resulted in the above wallpaper.

Also, the end result, i.e my wallpaper, depends on many other factors as well. Like how well the room the scene was shot in was lit (on VOY, usually very badly unfortunately :brickwall:), how close or distant the actor was standing to the camera when the scene was shot and - most importantly - what quality the original screenshot is. This means that the quality of the wallpaper greatly depends on whether the original screencap comes from a VHS version or a Blu-ray version or whether it comes from an original copy or a pirate copy, etc.

I normally use this website for the original screenshots:
    http://voy.trekcore.com/gallery/index.php

However, the quality there is hit or miss (but I haven't found a better website yet). Like I have recently started making wallpapers for DISTANT ORIGIN and the quality of the original screenshots is ... poor - to say the least.
I only have the show recorded from the television and so it's not very good quality I'm afraid. Add to this the fact that my PC disables the printscreen function most of the time although in about 20% of the cases it works. The quirks of Microsoft Windows, I suppose ...

On a related note, someone I know told me once that she had been to a convention where you could see the actual uniforms that were used for VOY. She said the Doctor's was totally blue in real life. Which came as a shock to me because on screen it comes across as green rather than blue.

And I have a very different colour scheme for you guys for today: black and white, combined with a pinch of purple.

That's a pretty cool site. I have no time right now to explore it, but I have it bookmarked.
Also, Janeway looks fantabulous as Arachnia in that paper. She means business by the expression on her face! The alignment of the ship in the 2nd pic also makes it look like she is wearing one of those Derby hats, as in the Kentucky Derby. That got postponed this year so good to see Janeway in the spirit of things (even if it's only a figment in my mind)...

I've also been wondering a lot about that blue/green color.

I can't remember exactly which episode it was but I remember a TNG episodes where the science guys did seem to have different shades of blue/green uniforms. Some looked more blue and some looked more green.
