Do you believe Kai Winn redeemed herself?

Winn didn't want to be redeemed. She wanted to crush the emissary utterly.

Opaka wore a Bajoran nun's habit, with a headdress and everything. And in a dream sequence Bareil saw himself in the same Kai robes Winn wore later.
Speaking of headdress, the peculiar headdress that she wore when she was a vedek always reminded me of the Sydney opera house.

Winn was quite a diva. :shifty:

Winn is a GREAT character. She is the quintessential politician. In America she’d be the first female president. Either party, she’d win.
Oddly enough, at one point in the series, Winn held the position of First Minister of Bajor, simultaneously while being the Kai. She didn't win (no pun intended) a popular election to get the job, though. She was appointed. :wtf:

However, she declined to run for reelection, when she realized she couldn't beat the popular Shakaar, so there was no reelection win for Winn.

I think you got that wrong? I thought Winn just tried to become First Minister upon the death of the nameless First Minister to that point.

I'm not sure I agree with that.

Are we counting sociopaths?

I think there’s some crimes like murder and rape that can never be redeemed by any amount of change of heart.

Like, if Hitler decided that he was wrong for murdering millions of Jews, and decided to be good from now on, would he absolved?

Agreed.

Yes, Winn became First Minister upon the death of the nameless First Minister. I don't recall why it was Winn who assumed the position, whether it was the Bajoran government council that appointed her to the position or whatever the process was. But Winn was, for a brief period of time, concurrently the Kai and the First Minister.

Also, it might be more accurate to say that Winn withdrew her candidacy for reelection for First Minister after the popular Shakaar declared his candidacy. Had she stayed in the race, it would have been a no win situation for Winn.

A frustrating character who did anything for power. She had moments where she seems genuinely apologetic but always reverted back to her silent treacherous actions. It's why I love Kai and Dukat so much. I hated them but loved them at the same time. Very few villains make me laugh but these two never fail to crack a smile on my face when I watch them. Kai Winn desperately bowing down to the prophets in The Reckoning. Dukat claiming he has a big heart. I wish their deaths had been more satisfying. They died too quickly only suffering from burns within seconds.

Do you believe Kai Winn redeemed herself when she told the Emissary about the book resulting in Dukats death? Or was she only apologetic in that moment because she knew she fucked up? Is it possible for someone like Kai Winn to even have compassion and empathy without any benefits rewarded?
The Winn/Dukat relationship was interesting. On the one hand, toward the end, I found it amusing when the two of them started to act like a bickering couple. It was kind of funny when they traded insults, especially the scenes in the fire caves.

On the other hand, there was something really unappealing in seeing the two of them become physically intimate. It was unappetizing.

On a secular level, Winn did not redeem herself, imo. After she found out that Anjohl was really Dukat, she continued to ally herself with him.

Granted, she did kick Anjohl out onto the streets briefly, but she continued to work with him. Dukat was sort of the epitome of the brutal subjugation of her people. Dukat had lots of Bajoran blood on his hands. If the Bajoran people ever found out about this, I don't know if they could ever forgive her.

Whether Winn redeemed herself in the eyes of the Prophets, that's another matter.

She did not redeem herself...but i the end when she shouted to warn the emissary...at least she realized what was up.

It may have been an inspiration...

And what if the Shakaar went to the middle of the galaxy one day with the Orb of Time and became imprisoned there, after his acolytes left and told everyone of Sha-Ka-Ree? Oh noes, it's small universe syndrome again! :guffaw:

I agree, I wanted to see more of Frank Langella. I know this is off topic, but what happened to his character after the failed coup? I understand that if nothing was written about his fate, then we don’t know.

Nothing was said in the episodes of his fate. I wanted to see more of him, too. He was interesting.

Odd footnote, he was never credited in those episodes. I found out the reason behind it was he didn't want to seem to be doing it for exposure, and he took the role because his kids are fans.

I used to think that she did, but no longer believe that.
Kai Winn didn't help Sisko in the end for any other reason than her own selfish feelings. She was hurt that the Pah-Wraiths chose Dukat as their emissary and not her. That is the only reason she tried to stop Dukat.
Winn died truly caring about no one but herself.

Yes if he had a soft spot for Burnham
