Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

It’s probably not the best angle to view that particular design, although it is hard to envision what a good angle would be. I will reserve criticism until we see it in action.

It’s probably intended to be designed as a completely wonky and non-descript non-hero vessel due to the very nature of the show. Not only is it about generally unimportant personnel, they likely serve on a generally unimportant ship.

Is it a nod to the Kitbash - which is what wonky and non-descript non-hero seen in the background ships were?

One quibble I do have is with the Bleeding Cool blurb about health insurance premiums.

Seriously?

This is the Federation, and its Starfleet we're talking about. They don't worry about health insurance anymore because they got that fixed NHS/Canadian Medicare-style and then some!

That's a good point. I like it because it lacks that "hero" quality and looks like a ship that would be designed for heavy lifting. Reminds me of a kit bash, and taking a bit of a nod from Oberth, Ptolemy as well as the random kits in BoBW.

I don't think its pretty and I don't think it is meant to be.

Today's release date announcement on StarTrek.com even refers to the Cerritos as "one of Starfleet's least important ships," so I think that's exactly what they're going for with the design.

So we have a little over a month to wait.
How do we pronounce "Cerritos", again, please?

Nice riff on the TMP poster

I wonder if anyone ever did a model based on that version of the E?
Google says yes.

Even Terrans would put effort into their designs than that.
So twice now you've been asked to show us what you've got, and instead you continue to bitch about the ship and insult it at ever turn.

For the record, I don't actually care for this ship design very much myself, but your constant Monday morning quarterbacking of everything with the constant insistence that TPTB are lazy hacks and you could do better is getting rather tiresome. As others have said, if you can do better, SHOW US YOU CAN DO BETTER.

Y'know, in looking at this design, and judging by its window layouts, it appears to be quite huge. There are three rows of portholes around the rim of the saucer, and looking at the underside, it looks to be nearly as big as either a Galaxy or Nebula. It's probably more likely a contemporary of some of the Wolf 359 ships, like the Niagara. I think I'm going to take a stab at a schematic on this one, although my top and rear views will be purely conjectural (for now), and use the Niagara's saucer as a starting point.

Any new ship that’s a contemporary of the Galaxy class is A-OK in my book.

Which would make sense, giving these guys almost as much room to play with as the Enterprise D in terms of things like holodecks, lounges and other recreational facilities, which should logically be more prominent since this is about lower ranked officers who won't be spending a majority of their time on the bridge or briefing room.
