Lucifer Season 6!

I'm surprised to hear this, up until now it had seemed pretty definite that Season 5 would be the last.

Do we know if they knew that Season 5 might not be the end when they wrote the finale? I'm just hoping they leave enough open at the end of 5 that they can just jump into Season 6 without having to completely undo whatever the Season 5 finale does.

The pandemic stopped filming right before the last episode or two was going to be filmed. So some good news from all the grim is they can work out contract issues and figure all that out.

My guess is that their legal "upper hand" is more tenuous than they believe. These guys announced a show cancelling, let the cast members begin negotiating other projects, and then tried to come back and force the actors to accept their earlier deals. That doesn't even get to the fact that they likely have no idea when filming will begin (due to Covid-19), and they have this weird system in which a "season" is split up into two pieces (instead of calling it two seasons) in order to avoid contractually-mandated pay raises.

But, sure, put out a press release making Ellis out to be the bad guy. He is the devil, after all. Don't expect it to help your contract negotiations, though.

OH MY LUCIFER!

This is the best news i got for ages when it comes to TV shows. I am currently binging the entire show (tail end of season 3) and i am so hooked so these news are amazing!

I love the show and the last time i was this much on fire for a show was Castle (in its prime of course) - which has quite similar main characters if you think about it minus the supernatural elements of course.

Man.. this will be great. I just hope they can find good material for season 6 given that they planned season 5 to conclude the show. The last thing i want for Lucifer is some tacked on season that feels superfluous and unnecessary.

I'm glad that Lucifer is getting an additional season, even if I felt that Season 4 was the weakest season of the show. I like the cast/characters enough to want more time with them, and there were a few decent plot threads from Season 4 that I'm interested in seeing continue.

I've now binged all 4 seasons and i disagree - part of why i really like 10-13 episode streaming shows as opposed to 22-26 episode network shows is that they have to cut superfluous stories and extend storylines just so they can fill a season.

Less episodes means tighter writing and with good writers it doesn't mean you have to cut corners or material and Lucifer season 4 was great.

Season 4 was great and now i can't wait for season 5 - luckily it's less than 2 months away and then there's even a full additional season beyond that! I can't remember when i last binged a show that hard.

I mean, I don't buy "less episodes is better", that is in no way a guarantee, and Lucifer season 4 showed that. It had the weakest overall plot, the worst new supporting characters (Eve was the worst recurring character on the show in my opinion), and Lucifer's personal stuff felt like a bit of a retread. There are a bunch of great TV shows that hit 22-24 episodes out of the park, and some shorter season shows that suck, its all in the quality of the writers and producers.

To be clear, Lucifer S4 wasn't a terrible season at all, but I do think its the weakest season. The number of episodes is irrelevant to the quality in this case. Lucifer had three pretty good to great 22 episode seasons, then a mediocre to ok shorter season, but the length of the seasons wasn't a pro or a con in either case, at least in my opinion.

Since Season 5 was so awful and such a fuck you to the fans, and the Netflix seasons have been absolutely dogshit in general, I'm obviously not bothering with the final season. I'm glad its gone, its gone far past its prime at this point. Goodbye Lucifer, you were a good 3 season show that I'll pretend ended after the Season 3 if I ever rewatch (because it pretty much did end at season 3, season 4 onward doesn't resemble the actual show at all except for the cast playing characters with the same names and a vaguely similar set up).

Thanks for your thoughts on the season you didn't watch...

I didn't realize Stewey had returned.

I have to say the ending was emotionally satisfying, but logistically questionable.
