News Stay safe.

yes it is tragic the events these days.. I do not go out anymore at all --- thanks for the best wishes :)

things like this are out there. :(

St. Patrick’s Cathedral desecrated with protest graffiti

I just watched a video of the KKK, my bad I mean 'police' shooting what looks like chalk balls at a group of people standing on their porch. This was after last night watching the klan members that America calls cops drive into a crowd of peaceful protesters. Staying safe is impossible in many parts of the country.

This is just the beginning of the second civil war. A cop murders another black person and the response is to be even more violent towards citizens.

Also covid is still a thing we still don't have enough PPE for nurses but all the KKK members playing police have plenty of gas masks and face shields.

In Chicago it's a mindless mob burning down family owned business, attacking the cops and looting. Stealing from Macys, looting CVS and Walgreen and Target. Burning cars that the tax payers will have to pay for eventually. Probably spreading the virus all over the place hurting the hospitals.

And the cops are forced let them roll through ransack the city all these unrelated businesses otherwise the protestors will spin it around on them.

The cop thT killed the guy has been arrested for murder.
I don't get how protesting had to do with destroying private or public property.
What does stealing stuff from stores have to do with protesting?
Does anyone ever protest when a woman or child is killed? ( wait, I hear crickets)

, attacking the cops .

Ummm... why did this start again? Oh yeah. I saw cops drive over peaceful protecters, police shoot paint balls at people standing on their porch after an officers screamed 'light them up!', I saw a video of undercover cops LOOT a protest sight, spilling their milk and stealing their supplies, dozens of other cops showed up to protect the KKK members, ooppps cops, I saw video of a cop knee on someone's neck... how did this start again?

There are certainly racist police out there who need to be held to account, and I understand your anguish about the current situation. However, this inflammatory language is out of place for the intent of this thread, which is about telling people to stay safe. I would ask that you please cool it down and respect the intent of the thread.

Yes, of course they do. Some have literally taken place this very weekend. The question is somewhat disingenuous.

Who do you think 'Stay safe' from, the protesters or the cops? How many people have been murdered by cops this week vs how many people have the protesters murdered?

Who is gunning for a riot / violence? The protesters don't have fucking tanks.

And why is it that the police have face shields and the nurses don't? Nothing corrupt there.

Again, not saying these aren't legitimate points. It's also not lost on me the number of incidents of police shooting, teargassing and injuring accredited journalists who are not even taking place in the protests, but are just there covering it, which is also deeply troubling.

What I am saying, is that this is not appropriate for this thread, which was started in order to simply convey support and well wishes to board members who find themselves and their homes in the middle of these situations. I'm asking, I hope respectfully, to cool things down and respect the tone and intent of the thread. OK?

ETA: BTW, I didn't catch this originally, but since your image was hotlinked, I had to convert it to a link.

Maybe you should listen to the news instead of crickets. This is happening right now:

Do you remember the protests for Tamir Rice or Trayvon Martin and many others?

She's not defending or excusing the police. There's a legitimate case to be made for widespread infiltration of law enforcement by white supremacist groups. You were not making that case. You were, as you do about most subjects, giving one of your hyperbolic rants. Which under the circumstances is more understandable and excusable now than other times, hence she just gave you a friendly caution, which you threw back in her face.

The OP made a nice post wishing for everyone to stay safe, and a few of you immediately escalated the rhetoric. Now it was bound to get there gradually, but Jesus, at least respect the OP's intent for a little bit, okay?

"Who started it" is a mindset actually examined in Trek and many stories where they are locked in endless cycles of violence and cant move forward, I think hurting more people is not the way, but right now that's what is happening

Yes, the police are hurting more people. Pick an article, any article. I don't see protesters with guns and tanks.

“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." - JFK in 1962

There's a lot more to it than that if you're following Chicago where they're throwing molotovs and setting fires and breaking into buildings near a college compus. There's no point in furthering the discussion so I'll leave it at that. Stay safe everybody

We were at a vigil for George Floyd downtown that was peaceful and well attended. They had another one across the river. A couple of people started throwing rocks and arrests started being made. The message is getting overturned and I have to wonder why. It happens too often to be coincidence.

That's what I mean. Travon Martin was a male everyone heard about him in the USA.
Nope, not sure who that woman was.
Micheal Brown remember him? hands up don't shoot!
Both of these men getting killed, now three men causes nationwide riots. It seems nobody nationwide cares so much when it's a female that dies.
That
Is my point.
I feel sorry for people that are having their property damaged or being injured by lunatics who aren't part of a protest but just show up to loot stores and cause meyham.
It destroys the message of what others are trying to convey with their protest.

Why be obtuse about it? What's your point?

George Floyd was murdered by a group of policemen but he was not the only very public case of racially motivated offenses in the last few weeks. I honestly do not get what you are getting at. I can't tell if you're trying to throw gasoline on a fire, water, or freon to make phosgene.

You said "Does anyone ever protest when women and children are killed? (Wait I hear crickets)". I provided you with a link to protests that are going on right now for Breonna Taylor and protests in the past for two children, Tamir Rice and Trayvon Martin. The protests going on right now are not just about George Floyd, they're about all the black (and other POC) men, women and children unjustly killed, assaulted, and detained by police on a daily basis.

Yes, women especially are given short shrift coverage on the matter of police brutality many times, and that needs to be corrected, but your point that there are no protests or coverage of it at all is just plainly objectively wrong.

You need to stop acting as if your insular lifestyle is indicative of reality for everyone else. Just because you haven't personally seen something with your own eyes doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Maybe look it up before making broadsweeping declarations based on ignorance, because this happens to you a lot.

There was a protest for several hours on Boston Common. It was peaceful until the police boxed the protesters in, tried running some over, jumping out of vans in riot gear (which yet again the nurses could probably use) and shooting gas and rubber bullets at the protesters.

FUCK. THE. POLICE.

I'm over this bullshit. The cops are fucking psycho bitches. This is just the beginning. We will not be giving in.

Both @Locutus of Bored and I have asked you to cool it down in this thread. Since you seem unwilling to do so, I am going to issue a reply ban.
