I would expect in a 24th century semi military organisation to teach all senior staff hand to hand combat training, whether you call it Kirk fu or something else, they should be as competent as Marvel's Black Widow. A human male living in the Middle Ages should be less strong than a healthy 24th century human female, even if said human male is a fantasy person created by Q. (Assuming he kept all the historical details). Thankfully DISC corrected that helpless female who cannot fight nonsense
Why not? If I was going into a fight I would defiantly use that over a sword. Grab anything just laying around and try and hit anyone with it. Actually sort of was in this situation once. Once threw a VCR at one of my sisters boyfriends because he wouldn't leave the house and 911 had to be called because he was a asshole being physical. Guy was a solder and I had zero chances of winning in a fight. Jason
I can't believe that we're arguing that it's realistic for the guys to be sword-fighting while the ladies crack pots. And then what do you fight the next person with after you've smashed your pot?
No I am saying even most of the guys fighting with swords is unrealistic. It would be more realistic for most of them to be using something like crack pots and anything they can grab. Well that and Data is a android with super fast speed. In theory he should have been able to mop the floor with all of them just by himself. Jason
As being a former military.. I had a few days of self defense in boot. Worthless.. I was a jet mechanic.. I was in a shop 7-5.. Didn't need it. Tori is a counseler. Shes sitting in an office eating biscotti discussing erectial problems.. .. Can see take more self defense classes.. Yes. Same for the doctor.. .. So them not knowing Kirk Fu .. Is understandable.
I think the pot cracking is more of just trying to make something funny that very well may have occurred in old Robin Hood TV and film and other such media.
Hit them with whatever I have available. Even in my training (limited though it might be-not military) we were taught to identify potential weapons in our office setting. My lamp next to me is like a pot and would be helpful. But, that's just in my experience. Never had to use it so who knows.
They both took Mok bara , Klingon defense classes. Plus they work on a ship exploring space that could be boarded anytime by dodgy aliens ...like Ferengi
Fair fight? No such thing as queensberrys Rules in a real fight.. You grab whatever is in arms reach and you beat the other person with it till they can't fight..
Anything you can find like mentioned. Plus your not exactly trying to conquer the castle. Just fight long enough so Picard can rescue Vash. Of course if they were smart you first take them down with pots or rocks or anything you can get then stab them with the swords once you have them to the ground or disoriented. Swords I imagine are heavy so just have Data break them down into easier to use knives for the stabbing. The whole fight should have looked like the church scene on Walking Dead all those years ago with the baddies who ate people. Also a shame everyone felt the need to attack at the same spot which feels like a tactical error due to lack of bigger set. Jason
So you'd look around an area and use whatever was nearby as a weapon to defend yourself. Like a sword, for example.
Anyone can use a sword. Not everyone can use one all that great. That's why the best and most realistic sword fight in all of Trek is Quark tossing one aside when he knows he doesn't stand a chance against a Klingon warrior in "The House of Quark." Jason
Yes but only because of bad writing. More like lazy writing. TNG had the worst action scenes of all time. Jason
Yar could have. I bet if she lived she and Worf would have made great sparring partners. Maybe Guinan. She did fence with Picard though I got the impression she was just getting into it. Jason
