Los Angeles County has extended its stay-at-home order by three months.

Just wrap it up and call it a lost season, MLB. We aren't having sports this year. It just isn't safe.

So who does that affect? The Dodgers, Rams, Chargers, Lakers, Clippers, Galaxy and Kings? I guess the Dodgers could switch to another venue outside of LA County. The Rams and Chargers won't be able to have pre-season games at home. Have to wait and see who else extends their stay-at-home orders.

The Cubs and White Sox don't have a chance of playing outside of flippantly violating the Shelter in Place order and hoping nobody has the backbone to try and stop them. Chicago is not the only area this is a concern, either; the A's and Giants are under the Bay Area SiP, no way in hell anybody is playing in a stadium in New York anytime soon, etc.

It's just fucking sports, people, it's not worth the risk to human lives.

I think generally, people are just looking for a diversion that connects them to the way things used to be. Honestly, I think we need it on some level to keep things in check. Not full blown "everything's open", but something to talk about other than COVID-19.

Baseball should go to a small college stadium, have a tournament across the Summer with four or eight team (no fans), only playing on weekends. Have the championship in September.

Though that likely wouldn't generate enough revenue to satisfy either the owners or the players.

look like we going to have to play all the games in 1 city like Phoenix that if the owner and the player can get there act together!

The players are never going to go for that. And I don't blame them.

As much as I miss baseball and a bunch of other things, I'm not sure I'll ever empathize with the argument of "we need our distractions," because I've just got a never-ending list of movies, TV shows, video games, books and general projects I've been finally working on, and I still have half an apartment needing a deep clean.

Maybe that says more about me.

Exactly this. I'm getting really tired of all of these assholes trying to force sports' far-too early return.

What's that? South Korea is back to baseball? Guess what. They did a far better job than the United States and it shows. And yet, even they are beginning to experience a second wave so I wouldn't be surprised if their baseball gets suspended again.

    Besides, that's a horrible idea on a health-safety level.

Indeed. I get really tired of the boredom/distractions/etc. complaints. READ A BOOK. I'm so far behind on my reading list and I'm a bibliophile. The average person will have plenty of books to choose from.

If they were to do something I think it would be maybe a All-Star type of game once a week were players can choose to play or not play. Personally though I think I am with the just shutting it down for a year. Other things to do for entertainment and also take this time to go watch some old games on YouTube or wherever. Go see Jeter play again or the George Brett or Kirby Puckett and so forth.

Lots of people do read. I read quite a bit, doesn’t replace other facets of my life. I think sports should resume when players and owners come up with a plan that minimizes the danger to players, coaches, trainers. Fans in attendance are a different animal and likely shouldn’t happen this year.

Adam Silver literally told NBA teams yesterday that they should plan for staff and players to come down with COVID-19 when camps open. I mean, come on, leagues are literally telling their teams to put labor in danger.

Then they obviously aren't to the point they should reopen. Doesn't mean it isn't a goal we should strive for. Life will go on at some point, COVID-19 or not. If 2021 gets here and there isn't a vaccine, I can't imagine anyone willing to sit around and wait for a promised 2022 vaccine.

If we had put medical professionals in charge to begin with, instead of politicians and courts, we may have minimized things to a point we wouldn't be having this discussion now.

Watching sports is purely a luxury and should be treated as such. As a workforce, it's far from essential. It's a simple as that.

It is a luxury, but it is also important to people, serves as a type of release. It will be folly for the government to ignore that entirely. This isn't the 15th century, at some point we will figure out how to put these contests on with relative safety. We already see it with the KBO in South Korea.

I'm not for rushing back, but saying sports serve no purpose to society is as short-sighted as saying art serves no purpose. I'd also love to go to a local museum right now.

Like I said before, that's because they did a far better job of responding to the crisis...and I suspect it'll get suspended again since they're beginning to see a second wave, which should be a warning from prematurely resuming sports.[/QUOTE]

Some try to dismiss sports, and going out to eat, and doing things like going to movie theaters or museums as unimportant right now, but they are very important to who we are and how we interact with the world.

We are social creatures and can't dismiss easily so much of what makes us who we are. They represent an important part of our mental health.

That's kinda my point. He's got an opinion on pretty much anything and he doesn't mind letting us know

Now, Tampa Bay Ray Blake Snell says he won't play for reduced salary
