Most gruesome/disturbing death scenes?

A lot of good ones mentioned.

Hansen onscreen as his outpost is destroyed always stuck in my mind, probably because when I was a kid the local station used that scene in a Star Trek promo spot and I saw it over and over. And even though you don't see it, the redshirt going down the bottomless pit stuck with me as a kid, too, I guess because of the scream and because I though Ruk was scary.

Latimer getting a LARGE spear in his back then falling down a cliff with the spear still in his back to his death!

I would say Gaetano's death was worse. Certainly more terrifying. He saw it coming. He knew what was going to happen and there wasn't anything he could do to stop it.

One of those dead aliens looked like the Frankenstein Monster as well! And the Libby Erwin bit with her gurgling and screeching on the floor was edited from the episode by the BBC so the first time I saw it was on the DVDs! It would have really freaked me out as a kid I'm sure! :wtf:

The BBC edited that out? Not surprising, I guess. Nightmare fuel for sure. One thing that kept me from losing it completely over that scene as a kid (and it's *still* scary) was how stoic Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Scotty looked just standing right there watching the poor woman. Cool customers. Whoever thought that scene up sure knew how to be frightening.

As I recall we see the landing party find the alien corpses in the planetoid as they call it and there is a flick in the film and the next scene has Mira Romaine standing next to the woman who has already died! Yet Mira wasn't in the landing party to begin with?? :wtf:

She wasn't part of the landing party. Kirk calls for her to beam down, and she does. It's shown in the scene.

MCCOY: Over here, Captain!
KIRK: Bones, can you do something?
MCCOY: Not a thing, Jim. (the woman's mouth is moving) The same garbled sounds Lieutenant Romaine made when she fainted after the storm.
KIRK: Are you sure?
MCCOY: Absolutely sure.
KIRK: Kirk to Enterprise.
SULU [OC]: Sulu here.
KIRK: Beam down Lieutenant Romaine immediately.
SULU [OC]: Yes, sir.

(The woman's face turns different vivid colours.)
KIRK: Spock, have you seen anything like that before?
SPOCK: Negative.
KIRK: Bones?
MCCOY: She's dead.
KIRK: What did she die of?
MCCOY: Severe brain haemorrhaging due to distortion of all neural systems, dissolution of autonomic nervous system. All basic personality factors, Captain.
SPOCK: The attack was thorough.
KIRK: What did the others die of?
MCCOY: Each had a different centre of brain destroyed, cause unknown.
KIRK: A different centre of the brain, you say?
MCCOY: Yes, Captain. I can be more detailed when we return to the ship and use the ship's computers.
(Mira beams in)
SCOTT: Mira! The captain has some questions.
MIRA: Yes, Captain.
KIRK: Lieutenant, when you were unconscious, you were speaking.
MIRA: What did I say?
KIRK: I don't know. The words were unfamiliar to me.
MIRA: What did it sound like?
KIRK: They sounded exactly like the last words spoken by the technician.

That's what I'm explaining! The whole scene was excised by the BBC in their screenings of the episode! Especially the 1980/81 viewings! :techman:

Ultimately, however, it has to be Lights of Zetar. The technician changing colours, aided by the eerie Man Trap cue, was pure nightmare for me. Plus, the repeated Where No Man Has Gone Before cue throughout, is a horrifying enough cue. A rare occasion when a cue is used far better and more effectively in a subsequent episode in library form.

That's it, right there. Ding ding ding!

Not TOS, but getting that Ceti eel in the ear is frightening as hell.
If the movies were included in this survey....this one takes the cake. Fate worse than death.

Off the top of my hear, I'd say either the Horta attack or the Salt Monster attack.
