I'm definitely a Romulan. My long-suffering gamer friends (for whom I've been the Dungeon Master for the better part of 30 years) classed me as such because I'm "logical, but sneaky."

Vulcan but I'm sure there's a Romulan somewhere wanting to lend a helping hand. Good thing I broke up with the Pakled four years ago, he's not into... "teamwork"...:guffaw:

I mean if you take the Expanded Universe into consideration then the Romulans are the guys who rebelled against the Vulcans so that they could preserve their emotions, including passionate love and joy and left the planet for that right. So then they are pretty cool.
It's just a shame that by the time of TNG that hopeful beginning had somehow degenerated into the Romulan Empire.

My Debrune people are always underrepresented in these polls, and I won't have it. We demand equal representation! We'll all just be cloaked over here, being all pointy at you. :D :vulcan:  :rommie::guffaw::ack:

Vulcan for me. I'm not particularly emotional AND I have a bit of a difficult time expressing emotions. Although... make me angry enough and you get Romulan. Or even Klingon.

Why would that have to be limited to the novelverse?

I always assumed it was common knowledge that this was the reason the Romulans left Vulcan - in rebellion against Surak's teachings. Simple as that.

It may not have been actually confirmed in canon until ENT, but it was fairly obvious this was the case.

I just wasn't sure whether the positive aspect of said rebellion was ever explored in canon. In the shows we usually just see them militaristic and angry and secretive, while in expanded universe materials like Star Trek Online they put more emphasis on the positive aspects of the emotions the Romulans preserved.

I feel more Vulcan because I AM emotional but very measured. There’s no suppression but there is a reasoned approach to how my emotion is expressed.

You have always assumed incorrectly.

I suggest that you do a little "time computation" and compare when Surak taught to the time when the Debrune, a Romulan offshoot, were building outpost on planets.

I think you will see that the Romulans should have left Vulcan hundreds, or thousands, or tens of thousands, or hundreds of thousands of years before the time of Surak.

I tis explained in my post number 68 on page 4 of the thread: https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/matt-decker-is-will’s-father.303606/page-4#post-13332317

Yes, the Romulans were originally implied to be a lost remnant of Vulcan's pre-Surakian days of aggressive colonization.
