MLB Pseudo-Season 2020: Roger, Dodgers

I think I asked that question already, and nobody really had an answer. I'd especially be concerned for teams that aren't currently part of an MLB team's farm system, like teams in the Atlantic League (go Barnstormers!).

I also wonder about the minor leagues. Could this virus basically kill a lot of teams because a bad economy and we start seeing teams fold?

Jason
I think so, especially as MLB was wanting to close down a bunch of minor league teams already. The closest to me is the Daytona Beach Tortugas, which was already on the contraction list. I don't think they will survive this.

I hope you're wrong.

We have a baseball weekend in July all planned out.

Insignificant in the face of everything, to be sure, but still...I want to go!!

:(:scream:
I hope I'm wrong, too...but the response from this administration has been abysmal and they continue to make it worse. It looks like we're going to be in this one for the long haul. :(

So, if there's literally half a season, does that count as half a year vs players service time?

Google it. They’ve come up with an agreement, but I’m mobile at the moment and it isn’t as easy to cut-and-paste links.

If they don't have a season could they at least maybe start the next season earlier than normal or does cold weather still become a issue? Also this is a wild idea but why not spend a month or two having regular season games down in Florida and Arizona were they play spring training games. Sure you don't have the large stadiums but you wouldn't have to worry about cold weather at all.

Jason

Thing with that the teams home city will not let that happen lost money!

They are actually talking about starting the season without fans and possibly playing at neutral sites to help minimize some travel.

Thanks to massive television deals, MLB teams rely less on ticket sales and in-stadium purchases (concessions, merchandise, etc.) to make money now than ever before. That said, some teams need gate revenue more than others, and playing games without fans may not be economically feasible for some teams. That's an issue that would need to be resolved.

On the other hand, playing games without fans would make neutral-site games a little more palatable. Home fans would not be shut out because they wouldn't be allowed entry in the first place, and it could cut down on travel if multiple teams are playing neutral-site home games at their spring training complex in Arizona or Florida.

Over the last few days, thanks to MLB network showing some classic World Series games, I have been reminded of just how comprehensively bad Joe Buck and Tim McCarver were as announcers. I'm just sayin'.

I don't need to watch those classic games to remember. I absolutely loathed that pairing with a burning passion of a thousand suns.

I don't mind Buck so much now because Smoltz is such a breath of fresh air. He still has annoyances but I can tolerate him now.

Costas/Smoltz would be amazing.

if we stop the spread of the virus in may. i think we can have baseball in late June /July. if we get any where the 100.00 to 240.000 death there are talking about. Baseball will be the last thing any 1 mind. that is the baseball fans that are still alive ! take care every 1!

One video on espn.com asks, "Should Luhnow, Hinch suspensions be pushed back to 2021?"

The question is, "can it be?" If they said through the 2020 season, is that "legally" binding?

I think CBS Sports already reported that the suspensions were for the 2020 season and both will be eligible to return at the conclusion of the season.

I'm sure every outlet has reported that, but if there's no season this year and MLB pushes for it to be changed, is it something they can do? MLB rules don't always match up with the legal system.

Like, is it defined as a "season" if no games are played? I mean, I hope we get some baseball after all this, but you never know.
