But all it would take would be one person letting someone in Elvis's group know about the interview or even send them a copy.

Exactly. The article was so incredibly scathing, it would be passed along by somebody who knew somebody, by however many indirect steps necessary, and the Elvis camp would at least get wind of it eventually even if they never saw the full text.

And Elvis was a superstar in music by 1966, whatever you other guys say about the "prestige" of his films. I still think no studio wanted to burn their bridges. And Elvis aside, studios might have said, "She trashes leading men in the press. That's a bad risk."

That said, my idea that the article torpedoed her film career is in no way an established fact. In light of this debate, I've reduced my confidence level to about 50 percent, the main reducing factor being that we just don't know where her career was going without the article.

Saavik being called "Mister" was just another aspect of Nicholas Meyer's "Nautical But Nice"/Horatio Hornblower theme for TWOK. I wouldn't read anything more into it than that.

Interesting, though, how Saavik is the only female referred to as 'Mister.' Uhura is never referred to as 'Mister Uhura,' when by this thought process, she should be.
