Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

Okay.. They can say it's different classes but to me it's like a bunch of miranda classes.. Like a miranda sans roll bar, or saratoga, or Soyuz etc. Just because some have minor differences or inward tilt nacelle versus out ward with a slightly different nacelle.. All the main hulls seem cookie cutter..
They had a galaxy class in the first episode! Come on!
I mean riker showing up in a dreadnaought galaxy would have been sweet!

Agreeing with @King Daniel Beyond here. "Based on" doesn't mean exact copy. Definitely some design features came from those uniforms, as well as the Voyager era uniforms.

Oh yeah? Name one thing it has in common with the Countdown design. Even the offset in department color edge is going the wrong direction.

There is clearly Voyager influence in the overall look, Countdown not so much.

So the enemy can't tell which is the command ship in control of the drone ships?

I'm Spartacus!

Then wouldn’t it make more sense for the command ship to not have windows either, instead of making tons of useless windows for the other ships?

Hey, people need windows man. Don't rob them of that luxury.

And useless or not I doubt it would be any skin off the nose to put windows in on other ships.

Rank location, collar, notch at the centre.
This is like arguing the Discovery isn't based on Planet of the Titans because there are holes in the saucer and square nacelles.

Ships were just not a high priority this season. They needed one generic ship that they could multiply a hundred times to make a fleet that would be on screen for a total of about a minute. Perhaps next season if there is need for another ship for a specific reason, they’ll put more care into the design.

Sure, the notch is going the other way, but it's the same notch. I'm not sure if it's lazier to just do the same exact thing, or reverse it and claim it's a "new" idea, but clearly they borrowed the idea from that design.

The tall collar and location of rank pips are pretty much the same.

If Riker was pulling off some sort of super-secret hologram fleet technique, then it would kind of rob Jurati of her major breakthrough when she invented the hologram fleet technique (Jurati Maneuver?) about three minutes prior.

I was half expecting that since they already have E-D from Ep 1. They would reuse it as the Challenger with Geordi as the Captain of the fleet, but I guess Riker makes more sense, perhaps? Either way, they have to redress the Disco bridge...

I think we need to understand that things that happened in alternate realities in previous Trek shows simply aren’t going to happen the same way now.

I figured Worf would show up. That it would be Admiral Riker leading a squadron consisting of Captain Worf (Enterprise-E), Captain La Forge (Challenger), Captain Crusher (Pasteur), and maybe Captain Troi (Titan). I know it would be kinda corny, but it would tie in with the line earlier in the season about Picard not wanting to call on his allies. Save up all the TNG cameos for one scene (or two, since they really shouldn't skedaddle as soon as they scare off the Romulans). They don't have to come back next season.

But I guess remaking three new ships (a Sovereign, an Olympic, and a brand new Luna), and trying to redress four bridge sets without greenscreening it would be too expensive.

You know, on Saturday, after 3 or 4 beers in, I’m giving it a thumbs up on the whole Starfleet thing. This is Star Trek: Picard. Not Star Trek: Hero Ship.
I get it, focus more on characters and less on ships in Picard focused series. I get it, really. I’ll totally excuse CBS when next Hero Ship based series comes along set in early 25th century and we never see these ships again. I promise, I’ll ignore this whole scene, will remove it from memory, like TATV. I promise.

For what it's worth, Chabon said he thought there were four different designs in the armada.

Maybe next season we'll have one-off episodes with Worf or Geordi. That would be a much better way of incorporating them into the show instead of a five second cameo as fleet captains in the season finale.

For what it's worth, Chabon said he thought there were four different designs in the armada.

I've love for him to explain exactly what differences there are, other than the two different nacelle types, that makes them four distinct classes instead of one class with different engines.
